蓋司牧乃天主之家宰、是宜無懈可擊、毋剛愎自用、毋暴氣動怒。凡嗜酒毆人、貪婪財貨、皆非所宜。

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self willed, not quick tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

He that is soon angry will deal foolishly; And a man of wicked devices is hated.

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober- minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;( but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil.Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double- tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

And the Lord’s servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing,in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

O my soul, come not thou into their council; Unto their assembly, my glory, be not thou united; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self- will they hocked an ox.

Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season?

that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;

A wrathful man stirreth up contention; But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave thee charge;

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice due to any that is afflicted.
