Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

I know and am convinced on the authority of the Lord Jesus that no food, in and of itself, is wrong to eat. But if someone believes it is wrong, then for that person it is wrong.

Don’t tear apart the work of God over what you eat. Remember, all foods are acceptable, but it is wrong to eat something if it makes another person stumble.

You say,“ I am allowed to do anything”— but not everything is good for you. You say,“ I am allowed to do anything”— but not everything is beneficial.

They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.

But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.

You say,“ I am allowed to do anything”— but not everything is good for you. And even though“ I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.You say,“ Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.”( This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

Then the Lord said to him,“ You Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy— full of greed and wickedness!Fools! Didn’t God make the inside as well as the outside?So clean the inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over.

But the words you speak come from the heart— that’s what defiles you.

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

But the voice spoke again:“ Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.”

However, not all believers know this. Some are accustomed to thinking of idols as being real, so when they eat food that has been offered to idols, they think of it as the worship of real gods, and their weak consciences are violated.

So you may eat any meat that is sold in the marketplace without raising questions of conscience.

Then Haggai asked,“ If someone becomes ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person and then touches any of these foods, will the food be defiled?” And the priests answered,“ Yes.”

Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.

“ Say to all your people and your priests,‘ During these seventy years of exile, when you fasted and mourned in the summer and in early autumn, was it really for me that you were fasting?And even now in your holy festivals, aren’t you eating and drinking just to please yourselves?

Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.

So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup.For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.
