Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (niv)

Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. (niv)

For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance.”For this is what the Lord says:“ I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees. Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house.Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. (niv)

For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. (niv)

“ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. (niv)

The children of your oppressors will come bowing before you; all who despise you will bow down at your feet and will call you the City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. (niv)

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (niv)

Then he turned to his disciples and said privately,“ Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” (niv)

Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things— and the things that are not— to nullify the things that are, (niv)

He replied,“ Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”Then they asked him,“ What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”He answered,“ I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”Then they hurled insults at him and said,“ You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses!We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.”The man answered,“ Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”To this they replied,“ You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said,“ Do you believe in the Son of Man?”“ Who is he, sir?” the man asked.“ Tell me so that I may believe in him.”Jesus said,“ You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”Then the man said,“ Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; (niv)

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. (niv)

“ No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.“ You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted.“ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law— there is a curse on them.”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,“ Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.” (niv)

“ I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. (niv)

No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven— the Son of Man. (niv)

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: (niv)

“ Leave her alone,” said Jesus.“ Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (niv)

But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.He says,“ I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.”And again,“ I will put my trust in him.” And again he says,“ Here am I, and the children God has given me.”Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death— that is, the devil— (niv)

Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. (niv)

For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— (niv)

Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory. (niv)

You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven— as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.” (niv)

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine. (niv)

Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. (niv)

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ (niv)

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. (niv)

I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” (niv)

Jesus said to them,“ If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. (niv)

But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. (niv)

“ Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.” (niv)

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said,“ Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything— all she had to live on.” (niv)

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:“ Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.For my eyes have seen your salvation,which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” (niv)
