‘ I must arise now and go around in the city; In the streets and in the public squares I must seek him whom my soul loves.’ I sought him but did not find him.

I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.

On top of the heights beside the way, Where the paths meet, she takes her stand;Beside the gates, at the opening to the city, At the entrance of the doors, she cries out:

Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again?Has His favor ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever?Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? SelahThen I said,“ It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed.”

For this reason it says,“ Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”

There is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us And have surrendered us to the power of our wrongdoings.

I arose to open to my beloved; And my hands dripped with myrrh, And my fingers with drops of myrrh, On the handles of the bolt.

And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave,‘ Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here those who are poor, those with disabilities, those who are blind, and those who are limping.’And later the slave said,‘ Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’And the master said to the slave,‘ Go out into the roads and the hedges and press upon them to come in, so that my house will be filled.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my help are the words of my groaning.My God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.

Wisdom shouts in the street, She raises her voice in the public square;At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she declares her sayings:

Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have passed over me.The Lord will send His goodness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night, A prayer to the God of my life.I will say to God my rock,“ Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

And He* came to the disciples and* found them sleeping, and He* said to Peter,“ So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour?Keep watching and praying, so that you do not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
