I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.

There was a man sent from God, whose name[ was] John.

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be[ any] that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

And that, knowing the time, that now[ it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now[ is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Blessed[ is] the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak[ this] to your shame.

For thou[ art] the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him,[ who is] the health of my countenance, and my God.

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth[ his] promise fail for evermore?Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.And I said, This[ is] my infirmity:[ but I will remember] the years of the right hand of the most High.

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

And[ there is] none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped[ with] myrrh, and my fingers[ with] sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel[ them] to come in, that my house may be filled.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?[ why art thou so] far from helping me,[ and from] the words of my roaring?O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words,[ saying],

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.[ Yet] the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song[ shall be] with me,[ and] my prayer unto the God of my life.I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed[ is] willing, but the flesh[ is] weak.
