I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.

有一個人，名叫約翰，是神所差來的。

“你們去走遍耶路撒冷的街道，到處觀察留意，又在城的廣場上尋覓；如果能找到一個行正義、求誠實的人，我就赦免這城。

還有，你們知道這是甚麼時期了，現在正是你們應該睡醒的時候，因為我們得救，現在比初信的時候更加接近了。

聽從我，天天在我門口警醒仰望，在我門框旁邊守候的人，是有福的。

你們理當醒悟過來，不要犯罪，因為你們中間有人不認識神；我說這話是要你們羞愧。

因為你是賜我力量的神。你為甚麼棄絕我呢？我為甚麼因仇敵的壓迫徘徊悲哀呢？求你發出你的亮光和真理，好引導我，帶我到你的聖山，到你的居所。我就走到神的祭壇前，到神、我極大的喜樂那裡。神啊！我的神啊！我要彈琴稱讚你。我的心哪！你為甚麼沮喪呢？為甚麼在我裡面不安呢？應當等候神；因為我還要稱讚他，他是我面前的救助、我的神。

它在路旁高處的最高點，在十字路口站著；在城門旁，在城門口，在進城門的空地上大聲呼喊：

主要永遠丟棄我，不再施恩嗎？他的慈愛永遠消失，他的應許永久廢去嗎？神忘記施恩，因忿怒而止住他的憐憫嗎？（細拉）因此我說：“這是我的憂傷：至高者的右手已經改變了（“至高者的右手已經改變了”或譯：“但我要追念至高者顯出右手的年代”）！”

因為一切顯露出來的就是光，所以有話說：“睡了的人哪，醒過來，從死人中起來吧！基督必要照亮你。”

沒有人呼求你的名，沒有人奮起抓著你；因為你掩面不顧我們，使我們在自己罪孽的權勢下融化。

我起來，要給我的良人開門；我的兩手滴下沒藥，指頭滴下沒藥，滴在門閂上。

僕人回來把這些事告訴他主人，家主就發怒，對僕人說：‘快到城裡大街小巷去，把貧窮的、殘廢的、瞎眼的、瘸腿的，都領到這裡來。’僕人說：‘主啊，你所吩咐的已經辦了，還有空位。’主人就對僕人說：‘你出去到路邊籬畔，勉強人進來，好把我的屋子坐滿。

我的神！我的神！你為甚麼離棄我？為甚麼遠離不救我，不聽我呻吟的話呢？我的神啊！我日間呼求，你不應允；在晚上我還是不停止。

智慧在街上呼喊，在廣場上揚聲；在鬧市中心呼叫，在城門口發出言語，說：

你的瀑布一發聲，深淵就和深淵響應；你的洪濤和波浪都掩蓋了我。白天耶和華賜下他的慈愛；夜間我要向他歌頌，向賜我生命的神禱告。我要對神我的磐石說：“你為甚麼忘記我呢？我為甚麼因仇敵的壓迫徘徊悲哀呢？”

耶穌回到門徒那裡，看見他們都睡著了，就對彼得說：“你們連一個小時也不能同我警醒嗎？應當警醒、禱告，免得陷入試探；你們心靈雖然願意，肉體卻是軟弱的。”
