耶和華見利亞失寵，就使她生育，拉結卻不生育。

女兒啊，現在不要懼怕，凡你所說的，我必照着行；我本城的人都知道你是個賢德的女子。

兒女是耶和華所賜的產業；所懷的胎是他所給的賞賜。

他使不能生育的婦人安居家中，為多子的樂母。你們要讚美耶和華！

我祈求為要得這孩子；耶和華已將我所求的賜給我了。

願耶和華從這少年女子賜你後裔，使你的家像她瑪從猶大所生法勒斯的家一般。」

亞伯拉罕禱告神，神就醫好了亞比米勒和他的妻子，並他的眾女僕，她們便能生育。因耶和華為亞伯拉罕的妻子撒拉的緣故，已經使亞比米勒家中的婦人不能生育。耶和華按着先前的話眷顧撒拉，便照他所說的給撒拉成就。當亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕；到神所說的日期，就給亞伯拉罕生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕給撒拉所生的兒子起名叫以撒。

神顧念拉結，應允了她，使她能生育。拉結懷孕生子，說：「神除去了我的羞恥」，

雅各向拉結生氣，說：「叫你不生育的是神，我豈能代替他作主呢？」

以撒因他妻子不生育，就為她祈求耶和華；耶和華應允他的祈求，他的妻子利百加就懷了孕。

素來飽足的，反作用人求食；飢餓的，再不飢餓。不生育的，生了七個兒子；多有兒女的，反倒衰微。
