耶和华见莉亚被嫌弃，就使她能生育；瑞秋却不能生育。

女儿啊，现在不要害怕！你所说的一切，我都会为你做；我城中所有的人都知道你是个才德的女子。

看哪，儿女是耶和华所赐的继业，腹中的胎儿就是赏报！

他使不能生育的女人安居家中，成为有儿女的快乐母亲。哈利路亚！

我为了得这孩子而祷告，现在耶和华已经把我向他所求的赐给我了。

愿耶和华从这年轻女子赐你后裔，使你的家像塔玛尔给犹大所生的法勒斯的家那样！”

亚伯拉罕向神祷告，神就治愈了亚比米勒，以及他的妻子和女仆们，使她们能生育了。原来耶和华因亚伯拉罕妻子撒拉的缘故，使亚比米勒家中所有的妇女都不能生育。耶和华照着他所说的眷顾了撒拉，照着他所应许的为撒拉成就了。撒拉怀了孕，到了神对亚伯拉罕说的那个所定时期，在亚伯拉罕年老的时候，为他生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕给撒拉为他所生的儿子，起名为以撒。

神也记念瑞秋，听允了她，使她能生育。瑞秋怀孕，生了一个儿子，就说：“神除去了我的羞辱。”

雅各的怒气就向瑞秋发作，说：“我难道能代替神吗？是他不让你腹中有胎儿。”

以撒因妻子不能生育就为她向耶和华祈求。耶和华应允了他的祈求，他的妻子莉白加就怀了孕。

饱足的为食物受雇，饥饿的却不再挨饿；不能怀孕的生了七个，儿子众多的反倒衰颓。
