耶和華見利亞失寵，就使她生育，拉結卻不生育。

以掃舉目觀看，看見婦人和孩子，就問：“這些與你同來的人是誰？”雅各回答：“是神賜給你僕人的孩子。”

我女兒，現在你不要怕，你所說的，我一定去作。本城的人都知道你是個賢慧的女人。

兒女是耶和華所賜的產業，腹中的胎兒是他的賞賜。

他使不能生育的婦人安居家中，成了有許多兒女的快樂母親。你們要讚美耶和華。

那時我祈求為要得這孩子，耶和華已經把我向他所求的賜給我了，

願耶和華從這少婦賜你後裔，使你的家像他瑪從猶大所生法勒斯的家一般。”

亞伯拉罕禱告神，神就醫好了亞比米勒和他的妻子，以及他的眾婢女，使她們能生育。因為耶和華為了亞伯拉罕妻子撒拉的緣故，曾經使亞比米勒家中所有的婦女，都不能生育。耶和華照著以前所說的，眷顧撒拉；耶和華按著他的應許，給撒拉作成。亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕，到了神應許的日期，就給亞伯拉罕生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕給撒拉為他所生的兒子，起名叫以撒。

神顧念拉結，垂聽了她的禱告，使她能生育。拉結就懷孕，生了一個兒子，說：“神把我的恥辱除去了。”

雅各就向拉結生氣，說：“使你不能生育的是神，我能代替他嗎？”

以撒因為自己的妻子不生育，就為她懇求耶和華。耶和華應允了他，他的妻子利百加就懷了孕。

飽足的，要勞碌覓食，飢餓的，不再飢餓；不能生育的，生了七個兒女，有過許多兒女的，反倒衰微。
