耶和華看見利亞失寵，就使利亞生育，但拉結卻不生育。

以掃看見跟在雅各後面的婦女和孩子，就問：「這些和你同行的是誰？」雅各說：「這些孩子是上帝施恩賜給你僕人的。」

姑娘，不要怕，你所說的一切，我都會去為你安排，城裡所有的人都知道你是個賢德的女子。

兒女是耶和華所賜的禮物，孩子是祂所給的賞賜。

祂賜給不育的婦人兒女，使她們成為快樂的母親。你們要讚美耶和華！

我求耶和華賜給我一個孩子，祂應允了我的祈求。

願耶和華藉著這年輕女子賜你後裔，使你家像先祖猶大和她瑪的兒子法勒斯家一樣。」

亞伯拉罕祈求上帝，上帝就治好了亞比米勒，也使他妻子和眾婢女恢復了生育能力。原來耶和華因為亞伯拉罕的妻子撒拉這件事，使亞比米勒宮中所有的婦女都不能生育。耶和華按著自己說過的話眷顧撒拉，實現給她的應許。亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕，在上帝指定的日期為他生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕為兒子取名叫以撒。

上帝眷顧拉結，聽了她的禱告，使她可以生育。她就懷孕，生了一個兒子，說：「上帝除去了我的羞辱。」

雅各氣憤地說：「使你不能生育的是上帝，難道我能代替上帝嗎？」

以撒因為利百加沒有生育，就為她祈求耶和華。耶和華應允了他的祈求，利百加就懷了孕。

素來豐衣足食的為糊口而當雇工，本來食不果腹的卻不再挨餓。不育的婦人現在生了七個孩子，兒女成群的婦人卻子女盡失。
