耶和华看见利亚失宠，就使利亚生育，但拉结却不生育。

以扫看见跟在雅各后面的妇女和孩子，就问：“这些和你同行的是谁？”雅各说：“这些孩子是上帝施恩赐给你仆人的。”

姑娘，不要怕，你所说的一切，我都会去为你安排，城里所有的人都知道你是个贤德的女子。

儿女是耶和华所赐的礼物，孩子是祂所给的赏赐。

祂赐给不育的妇人儿女，使她们成为快乐的母亲。你们要赞美耶和华！

我求耶和华赐给我一个孩子，祂应允了我的祈求。

愿耶和华借着这年轻女子赐你后裔，使你家像先祖犹大和她玛的儿子法勒斯家一样。”

亚伯拉罕祈求上帝，上帝就治好了亚比米勒，也使他妻子和众婢女恢复了生育能力。原来耶和华因为亚伯拉罕的妻子撒拉这件事，使亚比米勒宫中所有的妇女都不能生育。耶和华按着自己说过的话眷顾撒拉，实现给她的应许。亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕，在上帝指定的日期为他生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕为儿子取名叫以撒。

上帝眷顾拉结，听了她的祷告，使她可以生育。她就怀孕，生了一个儿子，说：“上帝除去了我的羞辱。”

雅各气愤地说：“使你不能生育的是上帝，难道我能代替上帝吗？”

以撒因为利百加没有生育，就为她祈求耶和华。耶和华应允了他的祈求，利百加就怀了孕。

素来丰衣足食的为糊口而当雇工，本来食不果腹的却不再挨饿。不育的妇人现在生了七个孩子，儿女成群的妇人却子女尽失。
