邑門長老與眾俱曰、我儕為證、昔拉結利亞傳嗣於以色列族、願耶和華使適爾家之婦亦若是、亦願爾於以法大得其財貨、於伯利恆播其聲名。

Then the elders and all the people standing in the gate replied,“ We are witnesses! May the Lord make this woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, from whom all the nation of Israel descended! May you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

All the people who were at the city gate, including the elders, said,“ We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is entering your house like Rachel and Leah, who together built the house of Israel. May you be powerful in Ephrathah and your name well known in Bethlehem.

And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said,“ We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon.And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.Now when Rachel saw that she had not borne Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob,“ Give me children, or else I am going to die.”Then Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said,“ Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”Then she said,“ Here is my female slave Bilhah: have relations with her that she may give birth on my knees, so that by her I too may obtain a child.”So she gave him her slave Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob had relations with her.Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has vindicated me, and has indeed heard my voice and has given me a son.” Therefore she named him Dan.And Rachel’s slave Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.So Rachel said,“ With mighty wrestling I have wrestled with my sister, and I have indeed prevailed.” And she named him Naphtali.When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a son.Then Leah said,“ How fortunate!” So she named him Gad.And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.Then Leah said,“ Happy am I! For women will call me happy.” So she named him Asher.Now in the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrake fruits in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah,“ Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”But she said to her,“ Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son’s mandrakes also?” So Rachel said,“ Therefore he may sleep with you tonight in return for your son’s mandrakes.”When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said,“ You must have relations with me, for I have indeed hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.Then Leah said,“ God has given me my reward, because I gave my slave to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob.Then Leah said,“ God has endowed me with a good gift; finally my husband will acknowledge me as his wife, because I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.Afterward she gave birth to a daughter, and named her Dinah.Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.So she conceived and gave birth to a son, and said,“ God has taken away my disgrace.”And she named him Joseph, saying,“ May the Lord give me another son.”

then his brother’s widow shall come up to him in the sight of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall declare,‘ This is what is done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house!’

Then they journeyed on from Bethel; but when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe difficulties in her labor.And when she was suffering severe difficulties in her labor, the midwife said to her,“ Do not fear, for you have another son!”And it came about, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she named him Ben oni; but his father called him Benjamin.So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).And Jacob set up a memorial stone over her grave; that is the memorial stone of Rachel’s grave to this day.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine Within your house, Your children like olive plants Around your table.Behold, for so shall a man Who fears the Lord be blessed.The Lord bless you from Zion, And may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.Indeed, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!

‘ And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For from you will come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His times of coming forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands.

Behold, we heard about it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar.

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.And the sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah( but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.And the sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron.And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan aram, with his daughter Dinah; all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty three.And the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.And the sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons.The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all.And the sons of Dan: Hushim.And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all.All the people belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob’s sons, were sixty six persons in all,and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two; all the people of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.

Then it came about after the plague, that the Lord spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying,“ Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers’ households, whoever is able to go to war in Israel.”So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,“ Take a census of the people from twenty years old and upward, as the Lord has commanded Moses.” Now the sons of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt were as follows:Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, the sons of Reuben: of Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites;of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.These are the families of the Reubenites, and those who were counted of them were 43,730.The son of Pallu: Eliab.The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram who were called by the congregation, who fought against Moses and against Aaron in the group of Korah, when they fought against the Lord,and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up along with Korah, when that group died, when the fire devoured 250 men, so that they became a warning sign.The sons of Korah, however, did not die.The sons of Simeon by their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites;of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites; of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites.These are the families of the Simeonites, 22,200 in number.The sons of Gad by their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites;of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites;of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites.These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those who were numbered of them, 40,500.The sons of Judah were Er and Onan, but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.The sons of Judah by their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites.The sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.These are the families of Judah by those who were numbered of them, 76,500.The sons of Issachar by their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Puvah, the family of the Punites;of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites.These are the families of Issachar by those who were numbered of them, 64,300.The sons of Zebulun by their families: of Sered, the family of the Seredites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.These are the families of the Zebulunites by those who were numbered of them, 60,500.The sons of Joseph by their families: Manasseh and Ephraim.The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites; and Machir fathered Gilead: of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites.These are the sons of Gilead: of Iezer, the family of the Iezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites;and of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;and of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, only daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.These are the families of Manasseh; and those who were numbered of them were 52,700.These are the sons of Ephraim by their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthelahites; of Becher, the family of the Becherites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.These are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites.These are the families of the sons of Ephraim by those who were numbered of them, 32,500. These are the sons of Joseph by their families.The sons of Benjamin by their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;of Shephupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.These are the sons of Benjamin by their families; and those who were numbered of them were 45,600.These are the sons of Dan by their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan by their families.All the families of the Shuhamites, by those who were numbered of them, were 64,400.The sons of Asher by their families: of Imnah, the family of the Imnites; of Ishvi, the family of the Ishvites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah.These are the families of the sons of Asher by those who were numbered of them, 53,400.The sons of Naphtali by their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites;of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.These are the families of Naphtali by their families; and those who were numbered of them were 45,400.These are the ones who were numbered of the sons of Israel, 601,730.Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Among these the land shall be divided as an inheritance according to the number of names.To a larger group you shall increase their inheritance, and to a smaller group you shall decrease their inheritance; each shall be given their inheritance corresponding to the total of those who were numbered of them.But the land shall be divided by lot. They shall receive their inheritance according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.Corresponding to the selection by lot, their inheritance shall be divided between the larger and the smaller groups.”These are those who were numbered of the Levites according to their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites.These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, and the family of the Korahites. Kohath fathered Amram.And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt; and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and their sister Miriam.And to Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the Lord.Those who were numbered of them were twenty three thousand, every male from a month old and upward, for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel since no inheritance was given to them among the sons of Israel.These are the ones who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.But among these there was not a man of those who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.For the Lord had said of them,“ They shall certainly die in the wilderness.” And not a man was left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi; and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. So they entered the land of Moab and remained there.
