波阿斯对路得说：“女儿啊，好好听我说！不要到别人的田里去捡拾麦穗，也不要离开这里，要在这里紧跟着我的使女们。

娜娥米对她的儿媳妇说：“愿他蒙耶和华祝福！耶和华的慈爱没有离开活人和死人。”娜娥米又对她说：“那个人是我们的亲戚，是我们的一位有赎回权的近亲。”摩押女子路得说：“他还对我说：‘你要紧跟着我的仆人们，直到他们收完我所有的庄稼。’”娜娥米对她的儿媳妇路得说：“我的女儿啊，这样就好！你与他的使女们一同出去，就不会在别人的田里受人欺负。”于是，路得就紧跟着波阿斯的使女们捡拾麦穗，直到大麦收割和小麦收割都结束了。路得一直与她的婆婆住在一起。

娜娥米有一个亲人，是她丈夫以利米勒家族中有势力的财主，名叫波阿斯。
