波阿斯对路得说：“女儿啊，听我说，不要到别人田里去捡麦穗，也不要离开这里，要常常与我的女佣人在一起。

“兄弟住在一起，他们中间如果有一个死了，没有留下儿子，死者的妻子就不可出嫁外人；她丈夫的兄弟要向她尽兄弟的本分，娶她为妻，和她同房。她所生的长子要归亡兄的名下，免得他的名字从以色列中被涂抹了。那人如果不喜欢娶他兄弟的妻子，他兄弟的妻子就要到城门去见长老，说：‘我丈夫的兄弟不肯在以色列中为自己的哥哥立名，不肯对我尽兄弟的本分。’本城的长老就要把那人叫来，对他说明；如果他坚持说：‘我不乐意娶她’，他哥哥的妻子就要当着长老的面前，走到那人跟前，脱去他脚上的鞋子，吐唾沫在他的脸上，说：‘那不为自己哥哥建立家室的，人人都要这样对待他。’从此，在以色列中他的名字（“他的名字”或译：“他的家的名字”）必称为‘脱鞋者之家’。

拿俄米对媳妇说：“愿不断施慈爱给活人和死人的耶和华赐福给他。”拿俄米又对她说：“这个人是我们的亲人，有买赎权的一位近亲。”摩押女子路得说：“他还告诉我：‘紧跟着我的仆人捡麦穗，直到全部收割完毕。’”拿俄米对媳妇路得说：“我女儿啊，这样才好，要与他的女佣人一起去，免得在别人的田里遭受敌视。”她就紧跟着波阿斯的女佣人捡麦穗，直到大麦和小麦都收割好了。路得一直与婆婆住在一起。

拿俄米的丈夫以利米勒有个同族的亲戚，名叫波阿斯，是个大财主。

因为那位使人成圣的，和那些得到成圣的，同是出于一个源头；所以他称他们为弟兄也不以为耻。他说：“我要向我的弟兄宣扬你的名，我要在聚会中歌颂你。”又说：“我要信靠他。”又说：“看哪，我和神所赐给我的孩子们。”孩子们既然同有血肉之体，他自己也照样成为血肉之体，为要藉着死，消灭那掌握死权的魔鬼，
