波阿斯對路得說：「姑娘，聽我說，你不用到別人的田裡去拾麥穗了，也不必離開這裡，只管留下來跟我的女工在一起。

「如果兄弟們住在一起，其中一個沒有兒子便死了，死者的妻子不可改嫁給外人。死者的兄弟要盡兄弟的責任娶她為妻。她生的第一個兒子要算為死者的兒子，免得死者在以色列絕後。如果死者的兄弟不願娶那寡婦，她要到城門口見長老們，告訴他們，『我丈夫的兄弟不肯盡兄弟的責任娶我，不肯為我丈夫留後。』長老們要把死者的兄弟召來，與他商談。如果他執意不肯，那寡婦要當著眾長老的面，上前脫下他的鞋，吐唾沫在他臉上，說，『這就是不肯為兄弟留後之人的下場。』從此以後，他的家在以色列要被稱為『被脫鞋者之家』。

拿俄米說：「願耶和華賜福給他，他對活著的和過世的都是那麼有情有義。」拿俄米又對路得說：「這人是我們本族的人，是我們的一個近親。」摩押女子路得說：「他還對我說，『你可以跟在我的工人後面撿麥穗，直到他們把我的莊稼都收完為止。』」拿俄米對兒媳路得說：「我的女兒啊，你就跟他的女工一起到田裡去，免得去別人的田裡被欺負。」因此，路得便常跟波阿斯的女工在一起撿麥穗，直到大麥小麥都收割完畢。路得就這樣陪伴婆婆過日子。

拿俄米的丈夫以利米勒有個親戚，名叫波阿斯，是個有名望的財主。

因為使人聖潔的耶穌和那些得以聖潔的人都出自同一位父親，所以耶穌不以稱呼他們弟兄姊妹為恥。祂說：「我要向眾弟兄傳揚你的名，在會眾中歌頌你。」又說：「我要倚靠祂。」還說：「看啊，我和上帝賜給我的兒女都在這裡。」因為眾兒女都是血肉之軀，所以祂也同樣取了血肉之軀，為要親身經歷死亡，藉此摧毀掌握死亡權勢的魔鬼，
