For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

The created world was held back from fulfilling its purpose. But this was not the result of its own choice. It was planned that way by the one who held it back. God planned

謂亞當曰、既聽婦言、食我所禁之樹、故土緣爾見詛、爾畢生鬱伊、食其所產。土將叢生荊棘、汝所食者、惟田之蔬、必汗流浹面、庶可餬口、逮歸於所出之土而後已。汝身乃土、死則返其本焉。

命名挪亞、曰、耶和華詛土、使我操作、備嘗艱苦、是子必慰藉我。

吾觀萬事、空之又空、虛之又虛、

吾儕知萬物、至今共嘆劬勞、

郊原無草、麀產子而遺之。野驢立於童山、噏氣若野犬、無草而目盲。

人居斯土、作惡無厭、自謂上帝不加彰癉、故邦國愁慘。土產槁枯、禽獸死亡、伊於何底。

上帝謂挪亞曰、緣世億兆、暴虐徧行、我必翦滅、使之云亡。○

邦國荒蕪、號呼於我前、國雖荒蕪、人猶不以為意。

六畜無苑、宛轉哀鳴、群羊皆斃、

民既犯法違例、爽其永約、故斯土咸染污衊、上帝降災、居民遭譴、如受火烙、存者無幾、

故土地荒蕪、居民凋喪、野獸飛鳥海魚、俱必滅亡、

寇賊之家、反獲平康、欲以己之能匹上帝、干上帝怒、竟享逸樂。試問諸鳥獸、鳥獸如是。試問諸蟲魚、蟲魚亦如是、皆耶和華使之然、此理誰不知之乎、獸之生命、人之性靈、操自上帝。
