我们这短暂而轻微的苦楚要为我们成就极重、无比、永远的荣耀。因为我们不是顾念看得见的，而是顾念看不见的；原来看得见的是暂时的，看不见的才是永远的。

倒要欢喜，因为你们是与基督一同受苦，使你们在他荣耀显现的时候也可以欢喜快乐。

就是为你们这些藉着信、蒙上帝大能保守的人，能获得他所预备、到末世要显现的救恩。虽然你们必须在百般试炼中暂时忧愁，你们要为此喜乐，使你们的信心既被考验，就比那被火试炼仍然能坏的金子更显宝贵，可以在耶稣基督显现的时候得着称赞、荣耀、尊贵。

我却不以性命为念，只要走完我的路程，完成我从主耶稣所领受的职分，为上帝恩典的福音作见证。

也必使你们这受患难的人与我们同得平安。那时，主耶稣同他有权能的天使从天上在火焰中显现，要报应那些不认识上帝和不听从我们的主耶稣福音的人。

所以，要准备好你们的心，谨慎自守，专心盼望耶稣基督显现的时候带给你们的恩惠。

基督是你们的生命，他显现的时候，你们也要与他一同在荣耀里显现。

“人若因我辱骂你们，迫害你们，捏造各样坏话毁谤你们，你们就有福了！要欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是很多的。在你们以前的先知，人也是这样迫害他们。”

他宁可和上帝的百姓一同受苦，也不愿在罪中享受片刻的欢乐。他把为弥赛亚受凌辱看得比埃及的财物更宝贵，因为他想望所要得的赏赐。

为此，上帝藉着我们所传的福音呼召你们，好得着我们主耶稣基督的荣光。

所以，我这同作长老，作基督受苦的证人和分享将来所要显现的荣耀的人，勉励在你们中间的长老们：

有些妇人得回从死人中复活的亲人。又有人忍受严刑，拒绝被释放，为要得着更美好的复活。
