我們這片刻間輕微的苦難、正為我們作成着高超無量極重無比永世之榮耀呢。我們原不是顧念着所看得見的，乃是顧念着所看不見的；因為所看得見的是暫時的，所看不見的乃是永世的。

相反的，你們既在基督的受苦上有多少分兒，就該有多少喜樂，使你們在他榮耀顯示的時候也可以歡喜快樂。

（你們又是憑着信心、在上帝的能力中蒙守護）來得拯救，就是準備要在末後的時期才顯示出來的。在這種情形裏、你們有歡樂，雖則現在暫時在各種試煉中或者有憂愁。這是要叫你們的信心被試驗為及格的、比那經火試驗還能銷滅的金子更寶貴得多多的、可以在耶穌基督顯示之時見為蒙受稱讚榮耀和尊重的。

但我不為性命作甚麼計算，而看為對自己有價值；比較起來，倒不如完盡了我的跑程、和我從主耶穌所領受的執事職任，鄭重證明上帝恩惠之福音。

故此你們要抖擻精神，要冷靜戒備着，要把盼望完全釘住於耶穌基督顯示時所要帶來給你們的恩。

基督、我們的生命、顯現的時候、那時你們也必和他一同顯現在榮耀中。

人辱罵你們，逼迫你們，憑空虛造說出各樣壞話毁謗你們；為了我的緣故、你們是有福的。應當歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞報很大；因為你們以前的神言人，人也這樣逼迫他們。

寧可選擇跟上帝的子民同受虐待，也不願意有罪惡中暫時的享受。因為他看被膏者所要受的辱罵、比埃及的寶藏為更大的財富：他轉臉注視着那賞報。

為達這目的、上帝就藉着我們所傳的福音呼召你們來得到我們主耶穌基督的榮耀以為業。

所以我這同做長老的、做基督受苦之見證人的、又是在將要顯示的榮耀中有分的、勸你們中間同做長老的。

有婦人得了他們死去的親人復活過來。另有人被張如鼓、受重擊而死，不接受贖放，為要得復活到較好的生活。
