原来我们这暂时、轻微的患难，正为我们带来极重无比、永恒的荣耀。我们所注重的不是看得见的，而是看不见的；因为看得见的是暂时的，看不见的却是永恒的。

相反，你们既然在基督的苦难上有份，就应该照此欢喜，好使你们在他荣耀显现的时候，也可以欢喜、快乐。

你们藉着信，在神的大能中蒙保守，以至于那预备好要在末世显现的救恩。为此，你们欢欣跳跃，但如今必须在种种试炼中暂时忧伤，好让你们的信仰经过考验，就比那被火炼过仍然会朽坏的金子更加宝贵，能在耶稣基督显现的时候，被看为是可以得着称赞、荣耀和尊贵的。

但是我不把自己的生命看为宝贵，为要跑尽我该跑的路程，完成从主耶稣所领受的服事工作，为神恩典的福音郑重地做见证。

也要使你们这些受患难的人与我们一同得到安息。神要在烈火中报应那些不认识神的人，以及那些不顺从我们主耶稣福音的人；他们将受到刑罚，就是永远的灭亡，从主面前被隔绝，离开他权能的荣耀。在那日，主来临的时候，要藉着他的圣徒得着荣耀，又藉着所有的信徒令人惊奇——因为你们相信了我们对你们所做的见证。为此，我们也常常为你们祷告：愿我们的神把你们看为配得他的召唤，并且以他的大能成全你们一切美好的心愿和一切信仰的行为，好使我们主耶稣的名，照着我们的神和主耶稣基督的恩典，因你们得着荣耀，你们也因他得着荣耀。

因此，你们要约束自己的意念，要谨慎，要把盼望完全寄托在耶稣基督显现时带给你们的恩典上。

基督是你们的生命，当他显现的时候，你们那时也就和他一同在荣耀里显现。

“当人们因我的缘故责骂你们、逼迫你们、用各种捏造出来的恶事毁谤你们的时候，你们就是蒙福的。你们当欢喜，当快乐，因为你们在天上的报偿是大的。要知道，那些人也这样逼迫了在你们以前的先知们。

他宁愿选择与神的子民同受虐待，也不愿享受暂时的罪中之乐。他把为基督受的责骂看做是比埃及的财宝更大的财富，因为他注目那将来的报偿。

为此，神也藉着我们的福音召唤了你们，使你们获得我们主耶稣基督的荣耀。

所以，我这同做长老的、做基督苦难见证人的、也在那将要显现的荣耀中有份的，我恳求你们中间的长老们：

有些妇女得回了那些从死人中复活的亲人；有些人受酷刑至死也不肯接受释放，为要得到更美好的复活；
