我们这短暂轻微的苦难正在为我们成就极大无比、永远的荣耀。我们注重的，并非看得见的事物，而是看不见的事物，因为看得见的事物都是暂时的，看不见的事物才是永恒的。

反倒要欢喜，因为你们是与基督一起受苦。这样，你们在祂的荣耀显现时可以和祂一同欢喜快乐。

你们这些因信而蒙上帝用大能保守的人，必能得到那已经预备好、在末世要显明的救恩。为此，即使现今你们必须暂时在百般试炼中忍受痛苦，也要满怀喜乐。这样，你们的信心经过试验便显明是真实的，比那经过火炼仍会坏掉的金子更加宝贵，使你们可以在耶稣基督显现时得到称赞、荣耀和尊贵。

不过，只要能跑完我当跑的路程，完成主耶稣交托给我的使命——为上帝充满恩典的福音做见证，就是牺牲性命，我也在所不惜。

当主耶稣和祂大能的天使在烈焰中从天上显现时，祂必使你们这些受苦的人和我们同得安慰，惩罚那些不认识上帝、不听从有关我们主耶稣之福音的人。那些人要受的刑罚就是离开主的面和祂荣耀的权能，永远灭亡。主降临的那日，祂要在祂的众圣徒中得到荣耀，使所有的信徒惊叹不已。你们也会在当中，因为你们相信了我们做的见证。因此，我们常常为你们祷告，愿我们的上帝看你们配得祂的呼召，用大能成全你们一切美好的心愿和凭信心所做的工作。这样，按照我们的上帝和主耶稣基督所赐的恩典，主耶稣基督的名便在你们身上得到荣耀，你们也在祂身上得到荣耀。

所以，要预备好你们的心，谨慎自律，专心盼望耶稣基督显现时要带给你们的恩典。

基督就是你们的新生命，祂显现的时候，你们也必和祂一起在荣耀中显现。

“人们因为我的缘故侮辱、迫害、肆意毁谤你们，你们就有福了。要欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上有很大的奖赏。他们也曾这样迫害以前的先知。

宁愿与上帝的子民一同受苦，也不肯享受一时的罪中之乐。在他眼中，为基督所受的凌辱远比埃及的财富更有价值，因为他盼望的是将来的赏赐。

上帝借着我们所传的福音呼召了你们，使你们可以得到我们主耶稣基督的荣耀。

我是基督受苦的见证人，将分享以后所显明的荣耀。我以长老的身份劝你们中间做长老的：

有些妇女得回了从死里复活的亲人；有些人受尽严刑拷打，仍不肯苟且偷生，为要得到一个复活后更美好的生命。
