這樣，我們要怎麼說呢？律法是罪嗎？絕對不是！但是，若不是藉着律法，我就不知何為罪；若不是律法說「不可貪心」，我就不知何為貪心。

这样，我们可说什么呢？律法是罪吗？断乎不是！只是非因律法，我就不知何为罪。非律法说“不可起贪心”，我就不知何为贪心。

这样，我们要怎么说呢？律法是罪吗？绝对不是！但是，若不是藉着律法，我就不知何为罪；若不是律法说“不可贪心”，我就不知何为贪心。

那麼，我們要怎麼說呢？難道律法是罪嗎？絕對不是！然而，要不是藉著律法，我就不知道什麼是罪。如果律法沒有說「不可貪心」，我就不知道什麼是貪心；

然則將何言耶、律豈罪乎、非也、非由律則我未嘗知罪、如律不言毋欲、則我不知欲、

然則何以言之、律法豈惡之因乎、曰、不然、非法無以見惡、蓋律法不禁欲、吾末由識欲、

然則何言、律法即罪乎、非也、然非由律法、我不識罪、律法若不云勿貪、則我不識貪、

於此吾人更有何說？將謂法即罪乎？無是理也！法非罪、乃所以燭吾之罪耳。法若不曰「毋淫、」則吾將不知淫之為淫矣。

What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

What should we say then? That the law is sinful? Not at all! Yet I wouldn’t have known what sin was unless the law had told me. The law says,“ Do not want what belongs to other people.”( Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21) If the law hadn’t said that, I would not have known what it was like to want what belongs to others.

What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said,“ You must not covet.”

What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:

What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

What shall we say then?[ Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else if the law had not said,“ Do not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”

所以，凡血肉之軀沒有一個能因律法的行為而在神面前稱義，因為律法本是要人認識罪。

然而，罪趁着機會，藉着誡命，使各樣的貪心在我裏頭發動，因為沒有律法，罪是死的。

「不可貪戀你鄰舍的房屋；不可貪戀你鄰舍的妻子、奴僕、婢女、牛驢，以及他一切所有的。」

「『不可貪戀你鄰舍的妻子；也不可貪圖你鄰舍的房屋、田地、僕婢、牛驢，以及他一切所有的。』

因為律法是惹動憤怒的，哪裏沒有律法，哪裏就沒有過犯。

死亡的毒刺就是罪，罪的權勢就是律法。

那不可姦淫，不可殺人，不可偷盜，不可貪婪，或別的誡命，都包括在「愛鄰如己」這一句話之內了。

耶和華的律法全備，使人甦醒；耶和華的法度確定，使愚蒙人有智慧。耶和華的訓詞正直，使人心快活；耶和華的命令清潔，使人眼目明亮。耶和華的典章真實，全然公義，敬畏耶和華是純潔的，存到永遠，比金子可羨慕，比極多的純金可羨慕；比蜜甘甜，比蜂房下滴的蜜甘甜。因此你的僕人受警戒，遵守這些有極大的賞賜。誰能察覺自己的錯失呢？求你赦免我隱藏的過犯。

我姑且照着人的看法來說，我們的不義若顯出神的義來，我們要怎麼說呢？神降怒是他不義嗎？

至於淫亂和一切污穢，或是貪婪，在你們中間連提都不可，這才合乎聖徒的體統。

於是女人見那棵樹好作食物，又悅人的眼目，那樹令人喜愛，能使人有智慧，她就摘下果子吃了，又給了與她一起的丈夫，他也吃了。

那麼，那善的是叫我死嗎？絕對不是！叫我死的是罪。罪藉着那善的叫我死，為要顯出這真是罪，以致罪藉着誡命更顯出是惡極了。

黃昏的時候，大衛從床上起來，在王宮的平頂上散步。他從平頂上看見一個婦人沐浴，這婦人容貌非常美麗。

我看萬事盡都有限，惟有你的命令極其寬廣。

我在所奪取的財物中看見一件美好的示拿外袍，二百舍客勒銀子，一條重五十舍客勒的金子。我貪愛這些物件，就拿去了。看哪，這些東西都埋在我帳棚內的地裏，銀子在外袍底下。」

於是他對他們說：「你們要謹慎自守，躲避一切的貪心，因為人的生命不在於家道豐富。」

他們看上田地就佔據，貪圖房屋便奪取；他們欺壓戶主和他的家庭，霸佔人和他的產業。

但是我告訴你們：凡看見婦女就動淫念的，這人心裏已經與她犯姦淫了。

這樣，那按肉體作我們祖宗的亞伯拉罕，我們要怎麼說呢？

我未曾貪圖一個人的金、銀或衣服。

因為我們屬肉體的時候，那因律法而生犯罪的慾望在我們肢體中發動，以致結出死亡的果子。

不要愛世界和世界上的東西，若有人愛世界，愛父的心就不在他裏面了。因為凡世界上的東西，好比肉體的情慾、眼目的情慾和今生的驕傲，都不是從父來的，而是從世界來的。

所以，要治死你們在地上的肢體；就如淫亂、污穢、邪情、惡慾和貪婪－貪婪就是拜偶像。

這些事以後，又有一事。耶斯列人拿伯在耶斯列有一個葡萄園，靠近撒瑪利亞，亞哈王的宮。亞哈對拿伯說：「把你的葡萄園給我作菜園，因為它靠近我的宮，我就把更好的葡萄園換給你。你若要銀子，我就按着價錢給你。」拿伯對亞哈說：「耶和華不准我把我祖先留下的產業給你。」亞哈因耶斯列人拿伯說「我不把我祖先留下的產業給你」，就生氣，憂悶地回宮，躺在床上，臉轉向內，也不吃飯。

不放縱私慾的邪情，像不認識神的外邦人。

因為罪趁着機會，藉着誡命誘惑我，並且藉着誡命殺了我。

那又怎麼樣呢？我們在恩典之下，不在律法之下，就可以犯罪嗎？絕對不可！
