其夫存而改適者、是謂不貞。若夫既死、則無復法律之拘束、雖再嫁亦不為失貞。

So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.

But suppose that married woman sleeps with another man while her husband is still alive. Then she is called a woman who commits adultery. But suppose her husband dies. Then she is free from that law. She is not guilty of adultery if she marries another man.

Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.

So while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.

So then, if she is married to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law. Then, if she is married to another man, she is not an adulteress.

So then, if while her husband is alive she gives herself to another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress if she gives herself to another man.

So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

So then, if she gives herself to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law. Then, if she gives herself to another man, she is not an adulteress.

So then if, while[ her] husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

“ You shall not commit adultery.

But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

But from the beginning of the creation, God‘ made them male and female.’‘ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter.So He said to them,“ Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

“ If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die— the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel.“ If a young woman who is a virgin is betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he humbled his neighbor’s wife; so you shall put away the evil from among you.

And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse.And the priest shall put her under oath, and say to the woman,“ If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness while under your husband’s authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse.But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you”—then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman—“ the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh rot and your belly swell;and may this water that causes the curse go into your stomach, and make your belly swell and your thigh rot.”‘ Then the woman shall say,“ Amen, so be it.”‘ Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall scrape them off into the bitter water.And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter.Then the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, shall wave the offering before the Lord, and bring it to the altar;and the priest shall take a handful of the offering, as its memorial portion, burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water.When he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and behaved unfaithfully toward her husband, that the water that brings a curse will enter her and become bitter, and her belly will swell, her thigh will rot, and the woman will become a curse among her people.But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be free and may conceive children.‘ This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband’s authority, goes astray and defiles herself,or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man, and he becomes jealous of his wife; then he shall stand the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute all this law upon her.Then the man shall be free from iniquity, but that woman shall bear her guilt.’”

But refuse the younger widows; for when they have begun to grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,having condemnation because they have cast off their first faith.And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

‘ The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.
