I have discovered this principle of life— that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.

我覺我內有斯法、即我願行善之時、有惡偕我、

於是吾於自身之內、另見一法。吾欲為善、而有惡潛伏其中、為之牽引。

So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.

Here is the law I find working in me. When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.

So I discover this law: When I want to do what is good, evil is present with me.

I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.

I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.

So I discover this principle: When I want to do what is good, evil is with me.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

So, I find the law that when I want to do good, evil is present with me.

I find then the law that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua.And the Lord said to Satan,“ I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. This man is like a burning stick that has been snatched from the fire.”Jeshua’s clothing was filthy as he stood there before the angel.So the angel said to the others standing there,“ Take off his filthy clothes.” And turning to Jeshua he said,“ See, I have taken away your sins, and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.”

Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.

Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.

Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

And because you belong to him, the power of the life giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

For troubles surround me— too many to count! My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out. They outnumber the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage.

Most of those who came from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun had not purified themselves. But King Hezekiah prayed for them, and they were allowed to eat the Passover meal anyway, even though this was contrary to the requirements of the Law. For Hezekiah said,“ May the Lord, who is good, pardon thosewho decide to follow the Lord, the God of their ancestors, even though they are not properly cleansed for the ceremony.”

Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.

They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.

Jesus replied,“ I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.

Then I said,“ It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs.He touched my lips with it and said,“ See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness,

Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.
