For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it.

蓋我知我形軀中無善、雖志於善、而未能行也、

亦知我情欲中無懿德、因好之者雖在前、而行其善者不得也、

我亦知我中、即在我肉體中、無有善、雖願為善、而為善不得、

吾知寓吾肉身之內者、實無片善可稱也。為善之願、未始無有；而為善之力、則未能有也。

For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

I know there is nothing good in my desires controlled by sin. I want to do what is good, but I can’t.

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.

For I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.

For I know that in me( that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good is not.

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I myself am serving the law of God, but with my flesh, the law of sin.

Who can produce something pure from what is impure? No one!

Depart from me, you evil ones, so that I may obey my God’s commands.Sustain me as you promised, and I will live; do not let me be ashamed of my hope.Sustain me so that I can be safe and always be concerned about your statutes.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.

Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

What is a mere human, that he should be pure, or one born of a woman, that he should be righteous?If God puts no trust in his holy ones and the heavens are not pure in his sight,how much less one who is revolting and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?

For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.

For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders,adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.All these evil things come from within and defile a person.”

When the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, he said to himself,“ I will never again curse the ground because of human beings, even though the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth onward. And I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sinsin which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient.We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!

When the LORD saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time,

May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.

Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.

For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering,in order that the law’s requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.For those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.Now the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the Spirit is life and peace.The mindset of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so.Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through his Spirit who lives in you.So then, brothers and sisters, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh,because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.

For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slander.

How I long for your precepts! Give me life through your righteousness.

For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions aroused through the law were working in us to bear fruit for death.

If only my ways were committed to keeping your statutes!

How can a human be justified before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

I wander like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commands.

For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do.

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity,idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things— as I warned you before— that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God’s will.

I pursue the way of your commands, for you broaden my understanding.

All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.
