We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.

( There had never been anyone like Ahab, who was firmly committed to doing evil in the sight of the LORD, urged on by his wife Jezebel.

They passed their sons and daughters through the fire, and practiced divination and omen reading. They committed themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD and made him angry.

When Elijah arrived, Ahab said to him,“ So, you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah replied,“ I have found you, because you are committed to doing evil in the sight of the LORD.

For this is what the LORD says:“ You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

This is what the LORD says:“ Where is your mother’s divorce certificate by which I divorced her? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Look, you were sold because of your sins; because of your rebellious acts I divorced your mother.

Every word of God is purified; he is like a shield for those who take refuge in him.

Look, you desire integrity in the inner man; you want me to possess wisdom.

This is what the LORD says:“ Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressions– make that four!– I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They sold the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals.

I collapse in the dirt. Revive me with your word!

for I really was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews and I have done nothing wrong here for which they should put me in a dungeon.”

So, brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but instead as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready,for you are still influenced by the flesh. For since there is still jealousy and dissension among you, are you not influenced by the flesh and behaving like unregenerate people?

But he turned and said to Peter,“ Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.”

Therefore I despise myself, and I repent in dust and ashes!

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying,“ Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”

Jesus said to him,“‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment.The second is like it:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

You assist those who delight in doing what is right, who observe your commandments. Look, you were angry because we violated them continually. How then can we be saved?We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.

Now in Egypt the Midianites sold Joseph to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard.

But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults a brother will be brought before the council, and whoever says‘ Fool’ will be sent to fiery hell.

You must love the LORD your God with your whole mind, your whole being, and all your strength.

If the sun has risen on him, then there is blood guilt for him. A thief must surely make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he will be sold for his theft.

Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, but let’s not lay a hand on him, for after all, he is our brother, our own flesh.” His brothers agreed.

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it.

Because he was not able to repay it, the lord ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, children, and whatever he possessed, and repayment to be made.

The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people: extortionists, unrighteous people, adulterers– or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said,‘ God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!’I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

So Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him,“ Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.

For I delight in the law of God in my inner being.But I see a different law in my members waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that is in my members.Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double- edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
