We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

We know that the law is holy. But I am not. I have been sold to be a slave of sin.

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.

So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.

There certainly was no one like Ahab who gave himself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife incited him.

Then they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and they practiced divination and interpreting omens, and gave themselves over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him.

Then Ahab said to Elijah,“ Have you found me, enemy of mine?” And he answered,“ I have found you, because you have given yourself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord.

For this is what the Lord says:“ You were sold for nothing, and you will be redeemed without money.”

This is what the Lord says:“ Where is the certificate of divorce By which I have sent your mother away? Or to whom of My creditors did I sell you? Behold, you were sold for your wrongdoings, And for your wrongful acts your mother was sent away.

Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in secret You will make wisdom known to me.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for money, And the needy for a pair of sandals.

My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.

For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon.”

And I, brothers and sisters, could not speak to you as spiritual people, but only as fleshly, as to infants in Christ.I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to consume it. But even now you are not yet able,for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like ordinary people?

but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

You meet him who rejoices in doing righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. Behold, You were angry, for we sinned, We continued in our sins for a long time; Yet shall we be saved?For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our wrongdoings, like the wind, take us away.

And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.

But since he did not have the means to repay, his master commanded that he be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment be made.

The Pharisee stood and began praying this in regard to himself:‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, crooked, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to raise his eyes toward heaven, but was beating his chest, saying,‘ God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Now Jesus started on His way with them; but already, when He was not yet far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him,“ Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to enter under my roof;

For I joyfully agree with the law of God in the inner person,but I see a different law in the parts of my body waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin, the law which is in my body’s parts.Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
