不第此也、亦樂於患難、蓋知患難生強忍、

不第此、所喜又在患難、蓋知患難生強忍、

不第此也、亦以患難為樂、以患難為樂或作因患難而誇因知患難生忍耐、

不寧惟是、吾人雖處患難、心中恆有至樂。蓋知患難所以生堅忍、

And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;

And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,

And not only[ so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance;

Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear them or be intimidated,

Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man.“ Rejoice in that day and leap for joy. Take note— your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets.

For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory.

But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.In the same way you should also be glad and rejoice with me.

Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be treated shamefully on behalf of the Name.

By your endurance, gain your lives.

So, then, I ask you not to be discouraged over my afflictions on your behalf, for they are your glory.

Are they servants of Christ? I’m talking like a madman— I’m a better one: with far more labors, many more imprisonments, far worse beatings, many times near death.Five times I received the forty lashes minus one from the Jews.Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.On frequent journeys, I faced dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my own people, dangers from Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers at sea, and dangers among false brothers;toil and hardship, many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst, often without food, cold, and without clothing.Not to mention other things, there is the daily pressure on me: my concern for all the churches.Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?If boasting is necessary, I will boast about my weaknesses.

For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but he does it for our benefit, so that we can share his holiness.No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name.For the time has come for judgment to begin with God’s household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

For it has been granted to you on Christ’s behalf not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.“ You are blessed when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of me.Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
