因為罪的工價乃是死；惟有上帝的恩賜，在我們的主基督耶穌裏，乃是永生。

只是知善惡的樹所出的，你不可吃，因為你吃它的日子必定死！」

因為世人都犯了罪，虧缺了上帝的榮耀，

私慾既懷了胎，就生出罪來；罪既長成，就生出死來。

你必汗流滿面才有食物可吃，直到你歸了土地，因為你是從土地而出的。你本是塵土，仍要歸回塵土。」

看哪，我是在罪孽裏生的，在我母親懷胎的時候就有了罪。

所以，正如罪藉着死掌權；照樣，恩典也藉着義掌權，使人因我們的主耶穌基督得永生。

於是女人見那棵樹好作食物，又悅人的眼目，那樹令人喜愛，能使人有智慧，她就摘下果子吃了，又給了與她一起的丈夫，他也吃了。

死亡和陰間也被扔進火湖裏，這火湖就是第二次的死。凡名字沒有記在生命冊上的人，就被扔進火湖裏。

看哪，所有的生命都是屬我的；父親的生命怎樣屬我，兒子的生命也照樣屬我；然而犯罪的，他必定死。

原來我們在許多事上都有過失；若有人在言語上沒有過失，他就是完全的人，也能勒住自己的全身。

然而，從亞當到摩西，死就掌了權，連那些不與亞當犯一樣罪過的，也在死的權下。亞當是那以後要來之人的預像。但是過犯不如恩賜，若因一人的過犯，眾人都死了，那麼，上帝的恩典，與那因耶穌基督一人而來的恩典中的賞賜，豈不加倍地臨到眾人嗎？因一人犯罪而來的後果，也不如賞賜，原來審判是由一人而定罪，恩賜乃是由許多過犯而稱義。若因一人的過犯，死就因這一人掌權，那些受洪恩又蒙所賜之義的，豈不更要因耶穌基督一人在他們生命中掌權嗎？

耶和華上帝說：「看哪，那人已經像我們中間的一個，知道善惡，現在恐怕他又伸手摘生命樹所出的來吃，就永遠活着。」耶和華上帝就驅逐他出伊甸園，使他耕種土地，他原是從土地裏被取出來的。耶和華上帝把那人趕出去，就在伊甸園東邊安設基路伯和發出火焰轉動的劍，把守生命樹的道路。
