For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath[ whereof] to glory; but not before God.

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God[ is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.And yet indeed[ she is] my sister; she[ is] the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This[ is] thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He[ is] my brother.

And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What[ is] this[ that] thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she[ was] thy wife?

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

For who maketh thee to differ[ from another]? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive[ it], why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received[ it]?

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

And Pharaoh commanded[ his] men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.

For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to[ answer] them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

That no flesh should glory in his presence.

I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago,( whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.And I knew such a man,( whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but[ now] I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me[ to be], or[ that] he heareth of me.And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
