If Abraham was justified by works, he has something to brag about— but not before God.

彼若欲以事功見稱、誠有所誇；然在天主之前、實不足多也。

If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about— but not before God.

Did he become right with God because of something he did? If so, he could brag about it. But he couldn’t brag to God.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.

If boasting is necessary, I will boast about my weaknesses.

and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ— the righteousness from God based on faith.

Joshua said to all the people,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:‘ Long ago your ancestors, including Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.

This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.But the one who boasts should boast in this, that he understands and knows Me— that I am Yahweh, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration.

When the Egyptians see you, they will say,‘ This is his wife.’ They will kill me but let you live.Please say you’re my sister so it will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared on your account.”

Then Abimelech called Abraham in and said to him,“ What have you done to us? How did I sin against you that you have brought such enormous guilt on me and on my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.”Abimelech also said to Abraham,“ What did you intend when you did this thing?”Abraham replied,“ I thought,‘ There is absolutely no fear of God in this place. They will kill me because of my wife.’Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.So when God had me wander from my father’s house, I said to her: Show your loyalty to me wherever we go and say about me:‘ He’s my brother.’”

So Pharaoh sent for Abram and said,“ What have you done to me? Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?

For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast, because an obligation is placed on me. And woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it?

not from works, so that no one can boast.

For no one will be justified in His sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed— attested by the Law and the Prophets— that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction.For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.God presented Him as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed.God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith.For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

Then Pharaoh gave his men orders about him, and they sent him away with his wife and all he had.

Therefore I have reason to boast in Christ Jesus regarding what pertains to God.

We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who take pride in the outward appearance rather than in the heart.

so that no one can boast in His presence.

He said to me,“ Go in and see the terrible and detestable things they are committing here.”

For even the circumcised don’t keep the law themselves; however, they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.

But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin’s power, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Boasting is necessary. It is not profitable, but I will move on to visions and revelations of the Lord.I know a man in Christ who was caught up into the third heaven 14 years ago. Whether he was in the body or out of the body, I don’t know, God knows.I know that this man— whether in the body or out of the body I don’t know, God knows—was caught up into paradise. He heard inexpressible words, which a man is not allowed to speak.I will boast about this person, but not about myself, except of my weaknesses.For if I want to boast, I will not be a fool, because I will be telling the truth. But I will spare you, so that no one can credit me with something beyond what he sees in me or hears from me,especially because of the extraordinary revelations. Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to torment me so I would not exalt myself.Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away from me.But He said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.

But I will continue to do what I am doing, in order to deny the opportunity of those who want an opportunity to be regarded just as our equals in what they boast about.
