As it is written,“ I have made you a father of many nations.” This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.

正如經上所記：「我已經指派你為眾多民族的父。」亞伯拉罕所信的那一位，就是叫死人得生命、使無變為有的神。

如經云、我立爾為萬邦之父、夫上帝即甦諸死者、命無為有者也、

經云、我命爾為萬民父焉、且上帝使死者生、變無為有亞伯拉罕篤信上帝、故在其前、得為吾眾之父、

蓋亞伯漢實為萬民之父。經曰：『吾使爾為萬邦之父』此之謂也。顧其所以能在天主之前為眾人之父者、亦曰篤信天主而已。蓋惟天主能予死者以生命、而出萬有於無有耳。

As it is written:“ I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed— the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

It is written,“ I have made you a father of many nations.”( Genesis 17:5) God considers Abraham to be our father. The God that Abraham believed in gives life to the dead. Abraham’s God also creates things that did not exist before.

as it is written,“ I have made you the father of many nations”— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him,“ I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.

As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, the one who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.

( as it is written:“ I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, that is, God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that do not exist.

( as it is written,“ I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed— God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

( as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee) before him whom he believed, even God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not, as though they were.

in God’s sight. As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations. He believed in God, who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.

( As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed,[ even] God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

( as it is written,“ I have made you the father of many nations”). He is our father in the presence of God whom he believed– the God who makes the dead alive and summons the things that do not yet exist as though they already do.

God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist,

“ As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.Your name will no more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also justified. Whom he justified, those he also glorified.

For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.

It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins,in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience.We also all once lived among them in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us,even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—

In the past, you were not a people, but now are God’s people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Most certainly I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.

For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace. The mountains and the hills will break out before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields will clap their hands.

Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn’t he the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.

I command you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.”

By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared a ship for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Who is like me? Who will call, and will declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? Let them declare the things that are coming, and that will happen.

I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.

Yes, my hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spread out the heavens. when I call to them, they stand up together.

“ It will be that in the place where it was said to them,‘ You are not my people,’ there they will be called‘ children of the living God.’”

So also it is written,“ The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life- giving spirit.

I will tell the north,‘ Give them up!’ and tell the south,‘ Don’t hold them back! Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the ends of the earth—

May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

Don’t think to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.Jokshan became the father of Sheba, and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac,but Abraham gave gifts to the sons of Abraham’s concubines. While he still lived, he sent them away from Isaac his son, eastward, to the east country.These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred seventy- five years.Abraham gave up his spirit, and died at a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people.Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is near Mamre,the field which Abraham purchased from the children of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife.After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi.Now this is the history of the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, bore to Abraham.These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,Mishma, Dumah, Massa,Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their nations.These are the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred thirty- seven years. He gave up his spirit and died, and was gathered to his people.They lived from Havilah to Shur that is before Egypt, as you go toward Assyria. He lived opposite all his relatives.This is the history of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham became the father of Isaac.Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.The children struggled together within her. She said,“ If it is like this, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.Yahweh said to her,“ Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.”When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau.After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.Now Isaac loved Esau, because he ate his venison. Rebekah loved Jacob.Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.Esau said to Jacob,“ Please feed me with some of that red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.Jacob said,“ First, sell me your birthright.”Esau said,“ Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”Jacob said,“ Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.
