我今且按人言言之曰、若我儕之不義、顯彰天主之義、則何言哉、天主施刑、可謂其不義乎、

曰：若人之不義、適足彰天主之義、則就人情言之、吾將何說、豈主之譴怒為不義乎？

But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us?( I am using a human argument.)

Doesn’t the fact that we are wrong prove more clearly that God is right? Then what can we say? Can we say that God is not fair when he brings his anger down on us? As you can tell, I am just using human ways of thinking.

“ But,” some might say,“ our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn’t it unfair, then, for him to punish us?”( This is merely a human point of view.)

But if our unrighteousness highlights God’s righteousness, what are we to say? I am using a human argument: Is God unrighteous to inflict wrath?

I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also?

‘ Now see that I, even I, am He, And there is no God besides Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.For I raise My hand to heaven, And say,“ As I live forever,If I whet My glittering sword, And My hand takes hold on judgment, I will render vengeance to My enemies, And repay those who hate Me.I will make My arrows drunk with blood, And My sword shall devour flesh, With the blood of the slain and the captives, From the heads of the leaders of the enemy.”’“ Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people; For He will avenge the blood of His servants, And render vengeance to His adversaries; He will provide atonement for His land and His people.”

What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?

But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.You will say to me then,“ Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it,“ Why have you made me like this?”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written,“ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise,“ Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs— O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth!Rise up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud.

For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?

The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked,So that men will say,“ Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely He is God who judges in the earth.”

since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you,and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

As it is written,“ Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not!

And I heard the angel of the waters saying:“ You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things.For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.”And I heard another from the altar saying,“ Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”

Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.But with an overflowing flood He will make an utter end of its place, And darkness will pursue His enemies.

They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:“ Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!

“ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; The Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies;

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
