I am using a human analogy because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you offered the parts of yourselves as slaves to impurity, and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification.

Brothers and sisters, I’m using a human illustration. No one sets aside or makes additions to a validated human will.

Am I saying this from a human perspective? Doesn’t the law also say the same thing?

See now that I alone am he; there is no God but me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal. No one can rescue anyone from my power.I raise my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever,when I sharpen my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold of judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood while my sword devours flesh— the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”Rejoice, you nations, concerning his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries; he will purify his land and his people.

What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.

So then, he has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy and he hardens whom he wants to harden.You will say to me, therefore,“ Why then does he still find fault? For who resists his will?”On the contrary, who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it,“ Why did you make me like this?”

What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.

What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply?

Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.

If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus as a mere man, what good did that do me? If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.

LORD, God of vengeance— God of vengeance, shine!Rise up, Judge of the earth; repay the proud what they deserve.

But if by my lie God’s truth abounds to his glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner?

The righteous one will rejoice when he sees the retribution; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.Then people will say,“ Yes, there is a reward for the righteous! There is a God who judges on earth!”

since it is just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict youand to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels,when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength

As it is written: I have loved Jacob, but I have hated Esau.What should we say then? Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not!

I heard the angel of the waters say, You are just, the Holy One, who is and who was, because you have passed judgment on these things.Because they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, you have given them blood to drink; they deserve it!I heard the altar say, Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and just are your judgments.

Who can withstand his indignation? Who can endure his burning anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; even rocks are shattered before him.The LORD is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.But he will completely destroy Nineveh with an overwhelming flood, and he will chase his enemies into darkness.

They sang the song of God’s servant Moses and the song of the Lamb: Great and awe-inspiring are your works, Lord God, the Almighty; just and true are your ways, King of the nations.

Rejoice over her, heaven, and you saints, apostles, and prophets, because God has pronounced on her the judgment she passed on you!

God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed.God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.

The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD takes vengeance and is fierce in wrath. The LORD takes vengeance against his foes; he is furious with his enemies.

For the creation was subjected to futility— not willingly, but because of him who subjected it— in the hopethat the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children.
