You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.

We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. You are just a branch, not the root.“ Well,” you may say,“ those branches were broken off to make room for me.”Yes, but remember— those branches were broken off because they didn’t believe in Christ, and you are there because you do believe. So don’t think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen.For if God did not spare the original branches, he won’t spare you either.Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.And if the people of Israel turn from their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, for God has the power to graft them back into the tree.

If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.

I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. You know what he wants; you know what is right because you have been taught his law.

Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so called knowledge.

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place— until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

“ You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!

“ But Abraham said,‘ Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’“ The rich man replied,‘ No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’“ But Abraham said,‘ If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

Then the angel said to me,“ Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.”

Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews.

God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures.

True, some of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful?

Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
