然則爾欲正人、盍先正己！禁人為盜者、豈可自身為盜？

you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

You claim to teach others, but you don’t even teach yourself! You preach against stealing. But you steal!

So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach.They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden.“ Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels.And they love to sit at the head table at banquets and in the seats of honor in the synagogues.They love to receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces, and to be called‘ Rabbi.’“ Don’t let anyone call you‘ Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters.And don’t address anyone here on earth as‘ Father,’ for only God in heaven is your Father.And don’t let anyone call you‘ Teacher,’ for you have only one teacher, the Messiah.The greatest among you must be a servant.But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.“ What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either.

You rulers make decisions based on bribes; you priests teach God’s laws only for a price; you prophets won’t prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the Lord.“ No harm can come to us,” you say,“ for the Lord is here among us.”

“ And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.

But God says to the wicked:“ Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant?For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash.When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers.Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies.You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son.While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you.

“‘ You wicked servant!’ the king roared.‘ Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I’m a hard man who takes what isn’t mine and harvests crops I didn’t plant,

Then he said,“ You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb:‘ Physician, heal yourself’— meaning,‘ Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’

And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples.

Your leaders are like wolves who tear apart their victims. They actually destroy people’s lives for money!

Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain.

Listen to this, you who rob the poor and trample down the needy!You can’t wait for the Sabbath day to be over and the religious festivals to end so you can get back to cheating the helpless. You measure out grain with dishonest measures and cheat the buyer with dishonest scales.And you mix the grain you sell with chaff swept from the floor. Then you enslave poor people for one piece of silver or a pair of sandals.

There are hired murderers, loan racketeers, and extortioners everywhere. They never even think of me and my commands, says the Sovereign Lord.“ But now I clap my hands in indignation over your dishonest gain and bloodshed.

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

He said to them,“ The Scriptures declare,‘ My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.Teach the older men to exercise self control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely.And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.

“ Yes,” said Jesus,“ what sorrow also awaits you experts in religious law! For you crush people with unbearable religious demands, and you never lift a finger to ease the burden.
