然則爾訓他人、而不訓己乎、爾言勿竊、而自竊乎、

然則爾欲正人、盍先正己！禁人為盜者、豈可自身為盜？

you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

You claim to teach others, but you don’t even teach yourself! You preach against stealing. But you steal!

Therefore do whatever they tell you, and observe it. But don’t do what they do, because they don’t practice what they teach.They tie up heavy loads that are hard to carry and put them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves aren’t willing to lift a finger to move them.They do everything to be seen by others: They enlarge their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.They love the place of honor at banquets, the front seats in the synagogues,greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called‘ Rabbi’ by people.“ But you are not to be called‘ Rabbi,’ because you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers and sisters.Do not call anyone on earth your father, because you have one Father, who is in heaven.You are not to be called instructors either, because you have one Instructor, the Messiah.The greatest among you will be your servant.Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you don’t go in, and you don’t allow those entering to go in.

Her leaders issue rulings for a bribe, her priests teach for payment, and her prophets practice divination for silver. Yet they lean on the LORD, saying,“ Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will overtake us.”

And that servant who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it will be severely beaten.

But God says to the wicked:“ What right do you have to recite my statutes and to take my covenant on your lips?You hate instruction and fling my words behind you.When you see a thief, you make friends with him, and you associate with adulterers.You unleash your mouth for evil and harness your tongue for deceit.You sit, maligning your brother, slandering your mother’s son.You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But I will rebuke you and lay out the case before you.

“ He told him,‘ I will condemn you by what you have said, you evil servant! If you knew I was a harsh man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow,

Then he said to them,“ No doubt you will quote this proverb to me:‘ Doctor, heal yourself. What we’ve heard that took place in Capernaum, do here in your hometown also.’”

For even the circumcised don’t keep the law themselves, and yet they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.

“ Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey, shedding blood, and destroying lives in order to make profit dishonestly.

These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own profit.

Hear this, you who trample on the needy and do away with the poor of the land,asking,“ When will the New Moon be over so we may sell grain, and the Sabbath, so we may market wheat? We can reduce the measure while increasing the price and cheat with dishonest scales.We can buy the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and even sell the chaff!”

People who live in you accept bribes in order to shed blood. You take interest and profit on a loan and brutally extort your neighbors. You have forgotten me. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.“‘ Now look, I clap my hands together against the dishonest profit you have made and against the blood shed among you.

Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

He said to them,“ It is written, my house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of thieves!”

But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered.In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlledin everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.

Then he said,“ Woe also to you experts in the law! You load people with burdens that are hard to carry, and yet you yourselves don’t touch these burdens with one of your fingers.
