For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

Hearing the law does not make a person right with God. People are considered to be right with God only when they obey the law.

For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.

For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.

For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves.For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does.

Was our father Abraham not justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;and the Scripture was fulfilled which says,“ And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.In the same way, was Rahab the prostitute not justified by works also when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?

nevertheless, knowing that a person is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law; since by works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a violator of the Law, your circumcision has turned into uncircumcision.

Now, that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for,“ the righteous one will live by faith.”However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary,“ The person who performs them will live by them.”

For Moses writes of the righteousness that is based on the Law, that the person who performs them will live by them.

since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.

and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

It is not in heaven, that you could say,‘ Who will go up to heaven for us and get it for us, and proclaim it to us, so that we may follow it?’Nor is it beyond the sea, that you could say,‘ Who will cross the sea for us and get it for us and proclaim it to us, so that we may follow it?’On the contrary, the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may follow it.

because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

I gave them My statutes and informed them of My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them.

Now Moses summoned all Israel and said to them:“ Listen, Israel, to the statutes and ordinances which I am speaking today for you to hear, so that you may learn them and be careful to do them.

And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For no person living is righteous in Your sight.

You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace.

“ Not everyone who says to Me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.Many will say to Me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’And then I will declare to them,‘ I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’“ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell— and its collapse was great.”

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

“ Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform, so that you will live and go in and take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about; but not before God.For what does the Scripture say?“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Now to the one who works, the wages are not credited as a favor, but as what is due.But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”And He said to him,“ What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”And he answered,“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”And He said to him,“ You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

Now Israel, you shall listen and be careful to do them, so that it may go well for you and that you may increase greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

But He answered and said to them,“ My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

“ But as for you, son of man, your fellow citizens who talk with one another about you by the walls and in the doorways of the houses, speak one with another, each with his brother, saying,‘ Come now and hear what the message is that comes from the Lord.’And they come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them; for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart follows their unlawful gain.And behold, you are to them like a love song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not practice them.So when it comes— as it certainly will— then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
