It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.

I have always wanted to preach the good news where Christ was not known. I don’t want to build on what someone else has started.

and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation,

My aim is to preach the gospel where Christ has not been named, so that I will not build on someone else’s foundation,

Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation:

And in this way I desire to preach where Christ has not been named, so as not to build on another person’s foundation,

yes, making it my aim to preach the Good News, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build on another’s foundation.

吾儕決不作超越範圍之誇耀；吾輩之範圍、以天主所畫者為限、而爾等則在此範圍之內。吾儕之於爾等實無鞭長莫及之勢、蓋吾儕已以基督福音庇覆爾等矣。吾儕亦未過份自誇、而貪他人之功以為己功也。但望爾等之信德、與日俱長；庶幾吾儕之範圍、亦得賴以擴張、所播福音當更遠矣。吾儕既不捨己耘人、亦不掠人之美。

此聖宅、以宗徒先知為基、而有耶穌基督親充隅石；石上廣廈、經營正殷、結構日精、而規模日宏、駸駸乎將因主而成為聖殿矣。爾等亦為此廣廈之一部、聖神所建於同一隅石之上、以供天主之居停者也。

吾儕乃天主所假之手、爾等則為天主之田園、天主之第宅也。天主賜我以聖寵、得充大匠、而奠其基；惟在基上建築其房屋者、固另有人在；但望其人善為建築而已、蓋元基已奠、孰能捨而另植、元基惟一、基督耶穌是已。人若在此基礎之上有所建築、則無論其為金也、銀也、玉也、木也、茅草也禾稿也、要之各人之工作、終必昭然若揭、無可隱匿。在主之日、主將以炬火燭照各人之工程、且加以煆煉焉。苟其所建築於基上者依然無羔、則必獲賞；若其工作被火燒燬、則必受損、僅以身免、有若脫火而已。
