It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.

I have always wanted to preach the good news where Christ was not known. I don’t want to build on what someone else has started.

and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation,

yes, making it my aim to preach the Good News, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build on another’s foundation.

We, however, will not boast beyond measure but according to the measure of the area of ministry that God has assigned to us, which reaches even to you.For we are not overextending ourselves, as if we had not reached you, since we have come to you with the gospel of Christ.We are not boasting beyond measure about other people’s labors. On the contrary, we have the hope that as your faith increases, our area of ministry will be greatly enlarged,so that we may preach the gospel to the regions beyond you without boasting about what has already been done in someone else’s area of ministry.

But each one is to be careful how he builds on it.For no one can lay any foundation other than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ.If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw,each one’s work will become obvious. For the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each one’s work.If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward.If anyone’s work is burned up, he will experience loss, but he himself will be saved— but only as through fire.
