The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.

The person who eats everything must not look down on the one who does not. And the one who doesn’t eat everything must not judge the person who does. That’s because God has accepted them.

Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him.

Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them.

有人自矜其義、目無他人、耶穌設喻以警之曰：

今爾何人、竟敢指摘爾之兄弟耶！爾果何人、乃敢藐視爾之兄弟耶！豈不知吾人皆須立於天主臺前、而聽其審判乎。

是則爾之有知、適足陷稚弱兄弟於淪亡；而基督固為之捨生矣。然則得罪於兄弟、傷害其脆弱之良心、直獲罪於基督耳。是故食物若為吾兄弟躓蹶之緣、吾寧永不食肉、而不敢為兄弟之厲階也。

故望爾曹勿再互相指摘。各宜小心謹慎、切勿樹立梗障、而為兄弟之厲階也。

倘爾以食物細故、而貽兄弟以無謂之疑慮、則爾不復以仁愛之道而行矣。夫基督不惜為彼而死、爾乃以爾之食物致彼於死、毋乃不可乎。

慎毋責人、庶免受責。蓋爾所責於人者、必有援以責爾者；爾所用以繩人者、必有執以繩爾者。

慎毋蔑視一介小子；蓋吾語爾、若輩之守護天神、在天常得瞻仰吾父之聖顏焉。

此所謂良心平安、非指爾之良心、乃指彼之良心。寧能以吾之自由、供他人之腹誹乎？我既每飯不忘主恩、奈何以謝恩之由、轉成他人訾議之因。

是故若有人以飲食、節期、新月、安息等事、訾議爾等、弗恤可也。此等事僅係後事之虛影、而其真體則屬於基督。

孰若不食肉不飲酒、以免滋人疑惑之為愈乎。

伯鐸祿乃曰：『予茲確見天主之無偏無倚、一視同仁。

時有如望之徒晉謁曰：『吾儕及法利塞人恆齋、爾徒獨不齋何也？』

伯鐸祿言未竟、聖神降臨聽道之人。

蓋如望之來、不食不飲、而人曰：「彼中魔矣。」人子之來、食焉飲焉、而人則曰：「盍視斯人、饕餮也、酒徒也、稅吏罪人之友也。」是惟智德之子、能發智德之蘊耳。』

即洞察人心之天主、亦曾為之作證、賜彼以聖神、一如吾人；使其心因信德而致潔、亦與吾人無異。
