For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.

因是亦不可不輸稅；蓋彼既為天主之有司、課稅亦為其所掌也。

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

That’s also why you pay taxes. The authorities serve God. Ruling takes up all their time.

For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.

Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do.

And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God’s servants, continually attending to these tasks.

Then they asked Him, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth:Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them,“ Why do you test Me?Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said,“ Caesar’s.”And He said to them,“ Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”But they could not catch Him in His words in the presence of the people. And they marveled at His answer and kept silent.

Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said,“ Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius.And He said to them,“ Whose image and inscription is this?”They said to Him,“ Caesar’s.” And He said to them,“ Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

When they had come, they said to Him,“ Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?” But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them,“ Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it.”So they brought it. And He said to them,“ Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him,“ Caesar’s.”And Jesus answered and said to them,“ Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at Him.

When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said,“ Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”He said,“ Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying,“ What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”Peter said to Him,“ From strangers.” Jesus said to him,“ Then the sons are free.Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Moreover I issue a decree as to what you shall do for the elders of these Jews, for the building of this house of God: Let the cost be paid at the king’s expense from taxes on the region beyond the River; this is to be given immediately to these men, so that they are not hindered.

He went from year to year on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and judged Israel in all those places.But he always returned to Ramah, for his home was there. There he judged Israel, and there he built an altar to the Lord.

“ When I went out to the gate by the city, When I took my seat in the open square,The young men saw me and hid, And the aged arose and stood;The princes refrained from talking, And put their hand on their mouth;The voice of nobles was hushed, And their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.When the ear heard, then it blessed me, And when the eye saw, then it approved me;Because I delivered the poor who cried out, The fatherless and the one who had no helper.The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban.I was eyes to the blind, And I was feet to the lame.I was a father to the poor, And I searched out the case that I did not know.I broke the fangs of the wicked, And plucked the victim from his teeth.

Let it now be known to the king that, if this city is built and the walls completed, they will not pay tax, tribute, or custom, and the king’s treasury will be diminished.

And so it was, on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people; and the people stood before Moses from morning until evening.So when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said,“ What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit, and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”And Moses said to his father-in-law,“ Because the people come to me to inquire of God.When they have a difficulty, they come to me, and I judge between one and another; and I make known the statutes of God and His laws.”So Moses’ father-in-law said to him,“ The thing that you do is not good.Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you: Stand before God for the people, so that you may bring the difficulties to God.And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you.If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace.”So Moses heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people: rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.So they judged the people at all times; the hard cases they brought to Moses, but they judged every small case themselves.Then Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way to his own land.

There have also been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the region beyond the River; and tax, tribute, and custom were paid to them.

he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

And they began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

“ And I spoke to you at that time, saying:‘ I alone am not able to bear you.The Lord your God has multiplied you, and here you are today, as the stars of heaven in multitude.May the Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times more numerous than you are, and bless you as He has promised you!How can I alone bear your problems and your burdens and your complaints?Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.’And you answered me and said,‘ The thing which you have told us to do is good.’So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and knowledgeable men, and made them heads over you, leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties, leaders of tens, and officers for your tribes.“ Then I commanded your judges at that time, saying,‘ Hear the cases between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the stranger who is with him.You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small as well as the great; you shall not be afraid in any man’s presence, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, bring to me, and I will hear it.’

There were also those who said,“ We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our lands and vineyards.
