For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

That’s also why you pay taxes. The authorities serve God. Ruling takes up all their time.

For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.

Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do.

Whose image and inscription does it have?” They said,“ Caesar’s.”And He said to them,“ Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”And they were unable to catch Him in a statement in the presence of the people; and they were amazed at His answer, and said nothing.

Tell us then, what do You think? Is it permissible to pay a poll tax to Caesar, or not?”But Jesus perceived their malice, and said,“ Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?Show Me the coin used for the poll tax.” And they brought Him a denarius.And He* said to them,“ Whose image and inscription is this?”They* said to Him,“ Caesar’s.” Then He* said to them,“ Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.”

Now when they came to Capernaum, those who collected the two drachma tax came to Peter and said,“ Does your teacher not pay the two drachma tax?”He* said,“ Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying,“ What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll tax, from their sons or from strangers?”When Peter said,“ From strangers,” Jesus said to him,“ Then the sons are exempt.However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

Furthermore, I issue a decree concerning what you are to do for these elders of Judah in the rebuilding of that house of God: the full cost is to be paid to those people from the royal treasury out of the taxes of the provinces beyond the Euphrates River, and that without interruption.

Now let it be known to the king, that if that city is rebuilt and the walls are finished, they will not pay tribute, custom tax, or toll, and it will be detrimental to the revenue of the kings.

And it came about the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood before Moses from the morning until the evening.Now when Moses’ father in law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said,“ What is this thing that you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge and all the people stand before you from morning until evening?”Moses said to his father in law,“ Because the people come to me to inquire of God.When they have a dispute, it comes to me, and I judge between someone and his neighbor and make known the statutes of God and His laws.”Moses’ father in law then said to him,“ The thing that you are doing is not good.You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.Now listen to me: I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You be the people’s representative before God, and you bring the disputes to God,then admonish them about the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way in which they are to walk and the work they are to do.Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that they will bring to you every major matter, but they will judge every minor matter themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will carry the burden with you.If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their places in peace.”So Moses listened to his father in law and did everything that he had said.Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.Then they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult matter to Moses, but they would judge every minor matter themselves.Then Moses said goodbye to his father in law, and Jethro went his way to his own land.

that mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem, governing all the provinces beyond the Euphrates River, and that tribute, custom tax, and toll were paid to them.

or the one who exhorts, in the work of exhortation; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

You are not to be afraid of any person, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too difficult for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.’

There also were those who said,“ We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards.
