I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,

then make my joy complete by being like- minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.And he said:“ Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know.

Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them.

A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.Jesus said to them,“ The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.But you are not to be like that. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

And he said to him,“ I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.If you worship me, it will all be yours.”Jesus answered,“ It is written:‘ Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.“ If you are the Son of God,” he said,“ throw yourself down from here.For it is written:“‘ He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’”

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become“ fools” so that you may become wise.

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.

The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,

Looking at his disciples, he said:“ Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

“ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

“ God is mighty, but despises no one; he is mighty, and firm in his purpose.

“ What is it you want?” he asked. She said,“ Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”“ You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.“ Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”“ We can,” they answered.Jesus said to them,“ You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.Jesus called them together and said,“ You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.

What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Also in Judah the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind to carry out what the king and his officials had ordered, following the word of the Lord.

I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them.

The poor are shunned by all their relatives— how much more do their friends avoid them! Though the poor pursue them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found.

Whoever mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished.

My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?

By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast— all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

“ If I have denied justice to any of my servants, whether male or female, when they had a grievance against me,what will I do when God confronts me? What will I answer when called to account?Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?“ If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,

not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
