For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: A partial hardening has happened to Israel until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

Now may the God of endurance and comfort give you unity with one another in accordance with Christ Jesus,

complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose.Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying,“ Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”He called a child, had him stand among them,and said,“ I tell you the truth, unless you turn around and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven!Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

If someone thinks he knows something, he does not yet know to the degree that he needs to know.

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

A dispute also started among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.So Jesus said to them,“ The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called‘ benefactors.’Not so with you; instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the one who serves.For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table, or the one who serves? And he said to him,“ To you I will grant this whole realm– and the glory that goes along with it, for it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish.So then, if you will worship me, all this will be yours.”Jesus answered him,“ It is written,‘ You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”Then the devil brought him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the highest point of the temple, and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,for it is written,‘ He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’and‘ with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Are you looking for great things for yourself? Do not look for such things. For I, the LORD, affirm that I am about to bring disaster on all humanity. But I will allow you to escape with your life wherever you go.”’”

Guard against self- deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice, set things right, be encouraged, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

For you will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me!

The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news proclaimed to them.

Now godliness combined with contentment brings great profit.For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.But if we have food and shelter, we will be satisfied with that.Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to agree together, to end your divisions, and to be united by the same mind and purpose.

But when you host an elaborate meal, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.

Then he looked up at his disciples and said:“ Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God belongs to you.

“ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing?Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you more valuable than they are?

We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, we are dishonored!

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me.

Nevertheless, let us live up to the standard that we have already attained.

Indeed, God is mighty; and he does not despise people, he is mighty, and firm in his intent.

Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave–just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ so that– whether I come and see you or whether I remain absent– I should hear that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, by contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,

I say this to your shame! Is there no one among you wise enough to settle disputes between fellow Christians?

The group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but everything was held in common.

What is desirable for a person is to show loyal love, and a poor person is better than a liar.

The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed.

In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict the king and the officers had issued at the LORD’s command.

I will give them a single-minded purpose to live in a way that always shows respect for me. They will want to do that for their own good and the good of the children who descend from them.

All the relatives of a poor person hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him– he pursues them with words, but they do not respond.

The one who mocks the poor insults his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor do I have a haughty look. I do not have great aspirations, or concern myself with things that are beyond me.Indeed I am composed and quiet, like a young child carried by its mother; I am content like the young child I carry.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? (niv)

What will I answer when called to account?Did not he who made me in the womb make them?
