God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah— how he appealed to God against Israel:

蒙天主聖父按預知而拔擢、因聖神而成聖、服膺恩命、而霑濡耶穌基督寶血之眾兄弟曰：願恩寵康寧、錫爾不匱、日進無疆。

如此之人、亦即天主依其聖意而見召者也。蓋天主所預寵者、乃預簡之、俾克肖其聖子、欲使其聖子成為眾子中之冢息耳。故其所預簡者、必從而召之；其所召者、更從而義之；其所義者、更從而榮之。

而對於吾人預定為榮貴之器、沛加恩澤、以揚其無窮之榮、

寧能忘天民。寧能棄基業。

耶穌滿被聖神、返自約但；聖神導之於曠野者凡四旬、歷受魔試、

誰作斯語經綸主、真宰夙知今所為。

主既悉法利塞人已有耶穌授洗招徒、多於如望之說、顧耶穌實未親自授洗、授洗者、乃其諸徒也。遂離猶太而返加利利；

然則天主果食其言矣乎？無是理也！蓋出自義塞者、非必盡為義塞人；

異邦人聞此、無不竊喜、頌揚主道；凡受命能得永生者、翕然起信、

兄弟乎！吾知爾之所為、誠出無知、有司亦然、

昔吾祖遺吾人以斯井、既自取飲、更欲以飲其子孫及其六畜；今先生豈尤偉於吾祖乎？』

乃謂亞倫曰：「汝其造神像、為吾先導、蓋率我出埃及之摩西、吾已不知其去向矣！』

爾豈不知聖徒必將審判世界乎？世界尚受爾審判、豈曰不能處理細事乎？

若尚須予暫延此生、以收工作之效、則予誠不知奚擇。
