然未嘗信之、何由籲之、未嘗聞之、何由信之、未有宣者、何由聞之、

曰、未信之、何能龥之、未聞之、何能信之、

然未信之、何能籲之、未聞之、何能信之、無傳者、何能聞乎、

然而苟不信之、何由籲之、苟不聞之、何由信之；苟不傳之、何有聞之；

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

How can they call on him unless they believe in him? How can they believe in him unless they hear about him? How can they hear about him unless someone preaches to them?

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

他又對他們說：「你們往普天下去，傳福音給萬民聽。信而受洗的必然得救，不信的必被定罪。

到了適當的時機，藉着傳揚福音，把他的道顯明了；這傳揚的責任是按着我們的救主上帝的命令交託給我的－

又對他們說：「照經上所寫的，基督必受害，第三天從死人中復活，並且人們要奉他的名傳悔改、使罪得赦的道，從耶路撒冷起直傳到萬邦。

如果你們聽過他的道，領了他的教，因為真理就在耶穌裏，

出於信心的祈禱必能救那病人，主必叫他起來；他若犯了罪，也必蒙赦免。

我也要救你脫離百姓和外邦人的手。我差你到他們那裏去，要開他們的眼睛，使他們從黑暗中轉向光明，從撒但權下歸向上帝；使他們因信我而得蒙赦罪，和一切成聖的人同得基業。』」

惟有主站在我身邊，加給我力量，使我能把福音完整地傳開，讓所有的外邦人都聽見；我也從獅子口裏被救出來。

惟有上帝能照我所傳的福音和所講的耶穌基督，並照歷代以來隱藏的奧祕的啟示，堅固你們。這奧祕如今顯示出來，而且按着永生上帝的命令，藉眾先知的書指示萬民，使他們因信而順服。

我們從他蒙恩受了使徒的職分，為他的名在萬國中使人因信而順服，

尼尼微人就信服上帝，宣告禁食，從最大的到最小的都穿上麻衣。這消息傳到尼尼微王那裏，他就從寶座起來，脫下朝服，披上麻布，坐在灰中。他叫人通告尼尼微全城，說：「王和大臣有令，人、畜、牛、羊都不可嘗任何東西，不可吃，也不可喝水。人與牲畜都要披上麻布，切切求告上帝。各人要回轉離開惡道，離棄自己掌中的殘暴。誰知道上帝也許會回心轉意，不發烈怒，使我們不致滅亡。」

他說：「我是希伯來人，我敬畏耶和華，天上的上帝，他創造了滄海和陸地。」那些人就大大懼怕，對他說：「你做的是甚麼事呢？」原來他們已經知道他在躲避耶和華，因為他告訴了他們。海浪越來越洶湧，他們就問他說：「我們當向你做甚麼，才能使海浪平靜呢？」

沒有信，就不能討上帝的喜悅，因為到上帝面前來的人必須信有上帝，並且信他會賞賜尋求他的人。

他說：「沒有人指教我，怎能明白呢？」於是他請腓利上車，與他同坐。

但記載這些事是要使你們信耶穌是基督，是上帝的兒子，並且使你們信他，好因着他的名得生命。

問他們：「你們信的時候領受了聖靈沒有？」他們說：「沒有，我們連甚麼是聖靈都沒有聽過。」

水手都懼怕，各人哀求自己的神明。他們把船上的貨物拋進海裏，為要減輕載重。約拿卻下到艙底，躺臥沉睡。

「論到不屬你百姓以色列的外邦人，若為你的名從遠方而來，他們因聽見你的大名和大能的手，以及伸出來的膀臂，來向這殿禱告，求你在天上你的居所垂聽，照着外邦人向你所求的一切而行，使地上萬民都認識你的名，敬畏你，像你的百姓以色列一樣，又使他們知道我所建造的是稱為你名下的殿。

那些人就大大懼怕耶和華，向耶和華獻祭許願。
