How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

又謂之曰、爾曹往普天下、傳福音於萬民、信而領洗者得救、不信者定罪、

及時天主用人宣傳而顯著其道、且由我救主天主之命、託我傳之、

謂之曰、聖經如此載、基督當如此受害、至第三日由死復活、又託其名傳悔改赦罪之道、自耶路撒冷始、至於萬國、

蓋爾已聞之、且因受教而信之、循耶穌之真、

由信祈禱、可救患病者、主必起之、彼素犯之罪、亦蒙赦宥、

今我遣爾往就斯民、並異邦人、必拯爾脫其害、我遣爾為明其目、俾棄暗就光、離撒但之權、歸於天主、使其因信我而罪得赦、於諸聖徒中獲業、

惟主左右我、剛健我、致福音由我盡傳、俾異邦人皆聞之、且我得救、脫於獅口、

惟天主能堅爾曹、循我所宣之福音、所傳耶穌基督之道、即按所顯示亙古以來隱秘之奧、此奧今已昭著、且遵永生天主命、以先知書示諸異邦人知之、使其信服、

我儕因彼得恩寵、且受使徒之職、令萬國之人、為其名而信服、

尼尼微人信天主、宣示禁食、自老至少衣麻、尼尼微王聞言、聞言或作既聞此事下寶座、解衣、衣麻、坐於灰塵、王與大臣出諭、布告尼尼微邑曰、人與牲畜牛羊、勿食、勿飼、亦勿飲水、俱當衣麻、切切懇籲天主、各改其惡行、改其惡行原文作離其惡途下同勿復行強暴、或天主回厥志、息其盛怒、使我不亡、亦未可知、

曰、我乃希伯來人、素敬畏天上之主宰耶和華、造海與陸地者、造海與陸地者或作海與陸地為其所造約拿亦明告之以己逃避主、眾知此則懼甚、謂之曰、爾何為行此、又曰、今海之波濤洶湧已甚、當若何待爾、使海恬靜乎、

無信不能見悅於天主、蓋就天主者、必當信有天主、且信天主必賞求之之人、

曰、無啟迪我者、何能明乎、遂請腓立登車同坐、

惟載此、使爾信耶穌為天主子基督、既信、則可因其名而得永生、

問之曰、爾曹信後、曾受聖神否、曰、我儕未聞有聖神、

舟子恐懼、各禱其神、以舟中所載之物、盡擲於海、以輕其舟、約拿已下艙、偃臥酣寢、

如有外邦人不屬主之民以色列者、聞主之大名大能大力、為主之名自遠方來、在在或作向此殿祈禱、

舟人由是甚畏主、獻祭於主、且許願、
