How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

How can they call on him unless they believe in him? How can they believe in him unless they hear about him? How can they hear about him unless someone preaches to them?

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

耶穌對他們說：「你們要到全世界去，向萬人傳福音。信而受洗的人，將會得救；不信的人，將被定罪。

神在所定的時候，藉著傳道把他的話顯明了出來；我就是照著神我們救主的命令受了委託。

又對他們說：「經上這樣記著：基督必須受難，然後在第三天從死人中復活，並且人要奉他的名宣講為罪得赦免的悔改，從耶路撒冷開始，直到萬國。

如果你們真的聽從了他，又照著在耶穌裡的真理，在他裡面受了教導，

出於信的祈求，將會救那病人；主將使他起來；即使他犯了罪，也將被赦免。

我要從以色列子民和外邦人當中把你救出來。我差派你到他們那裡去，為了開啟他們的眼睛，使他們從黑暗歸向光明，從撒旦的權勢下歸向神，使他們因著信我，罪得赦免，並且與那些被分別為聖的人同得繼業。』

但是主站在我身邊，使我剛強，為要藉著我使傳道得以完成，讓所有外邦人都能聽見；我也從獅子口裡被救了出來。

願榮耀歸於神——他能藉著我的福音和有關耶穌基督的傳道，藉著奧祕的啟示堅固你們。這奧祕亙古以來是隱藏的，然而如今已經得以顯現；並且按照永恆神的命令，藉著先知們的經文顯明了出來。這是為要在萬民中帶來信仰上的順從——

我們從他領受了恩典和使徒的職份，為了他名的緣故，要在萬民中帶來信仰上的順從；

尼尼微人就相信神，並宣告禁食，無論尊貴的或卑微的，都披上麻布。這話語傳到尼尼微王的時候，他從自己的寶座上起來，從身上脫下王袍，披上麻布，坐在灰燼中。然後他頒布諭令，說：「在尼尼微，王和大臣有令：『無論人或牲畜，牛或羊，都不可嘗什麼，不可吃什麼，也不可喝水。人和牲畜都當披上麻布；各人都當迫切地向神呼求，從自己邪惡的道路上、自己手裡的殘暴中轉回。或許神會轉回、施憐憫，從他猛烈的怒氣中轉回，使我們不致滅亡。』」

約拿對他們說：「我是希伯來人；我敬畏耶和華天上的神；他就是造了海和陸地的那一位。」那些人大大懼怕，就問他：「你做的這是什麼呢？」原來那些人已經知道他逃避耶和華的面，因為他告訴了他們。他們又問他：「我們該對你怎麼做，才能使海為我們平靜下來呢？」因為海浪越來越洶湧了。

沒有信，就不可能蒙神喜悅，因為來到神面前的人，必須相信神存在，並且相信他報償那些尋求他的人。

太監回答說：「如果沒有人指教我，我怎麼能明白呢？」他就請腓利上來和他同坐。

但這些事被記下來，是要你們相信耶穌就是基督、是神的兒子；並且使你們因著信，就奉他的名有生命。

問他們：「你們信的時候，是否領受了聖靈？」他們告訴他：「其實我們也沒有聽說過是否有聖靈。」

水手們都懼怕，各人就向自己的神哀求。他們把船上的貨物拋進海中，為要減輕船的重量。約拿卻下到船的底艙，躺下沉睡了。

那些人大大敬畏耶和華，向耶和華獻上祭物，並且許願。
