既然如此，人沒有相信他，怎麼能求告他呢？沒有聽說過他，怎麼能相信他呢？沒有人傳講，怎麼能聽到呢？

然未嘗信之、何由籲之、未嘗聞之、何由信之、未有宣者、何由聞之、

曰、未信之、何能龥之、未聞之、何能信之、

然未信之、何能籲之、未聞之、何能信之、無傳者、何能聞乎、

然而苟不信之、何由籲之、苟不聞之、何由信之；苟不傳之、何有聞之；

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

How can they call on him unless they believe in him? How can they believe in him unless they hear about him? How can they hear about him unless someone preaches to them?

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

耶穌又對他們說：「你們要到世界各地去，向全人類傳揚福音。相信並接受洗禮的人必定得救，不肯相信的人必被定罪。

祂在所定的時候，藉著人的傳揚將自己的道顯明出來。我奉我們救主上帝的命令傳揚這道。

又對他們說：「聖經上說，基督必受害，然後在第三天從死裡復活，人們要奉祂的名傳揚悔改、赦罪的福音，從耶路撒冷一直傳遍萬國。

如果你們聽過祂的事，領受了祂的教誨，就是在祂裡面的真理，

出於信心的禱告必能使病人痊癒，主必使他康復。倘若他犯了罪，也必得到赦免。

我將把你從你的同胞和外族人手中救出來。我差遣你到他們那裡，去開他們的眼睛，使他們棄暗投明，脫離魔鬼的權勢，歸向上帝，好叫他們的罪得到赦免，與所有因信我而聖潔的人同得基業。』

然而主站在我身旁加給我力量，使我可以把福音清楚地傳給外族人。主把我從獅子口裡救了出來。

感謝上帝！祂能使你們剛強，正如我所傳講的福音和耶穌基督的教導。這福音是自古隱藏、從未顯明的奧祕，如今按著永恆上帝的命令，藉著先知們所寫的經書公諸於世，讓世人都信從耶穌基督。

我們從祂領受了恩典並成為使徒，要帶領萬民信從祂，使祂的名得榮耀。

尼尼微城的人相信了上帝的話，便宣告禁食，所有的人，無論大小貴賤都換上麻衣。尼尼微王聽到這消息後，便走下寶座，脫下王袍，披上麻衣，坐在爐灰中。王又向全城頒佈命令，說：「王和大臣有令，所有的人都必須禁食，牛羊牲畜都不許吃草也不許喝水。人和牲畜都必須披上麻衣，眾人要向上帝懇切呼求，改邪歸正，停止作惡。上帝或許會施憐憫，收回烈怒，使我們不致滅亡，也未可知。」

約拿回答說：「我是希伯來人，我敬畏耶和華，祂是創造海洋陸地、掌管諸天的上帝。」之後，他就把怎樣逃避耶和華的事告訴他們。眾人知道後，萬分恐懼，問他：「你怎麼做出這種事？」那時，風浪越來越大，他們便對約拿說：「我們要怎樣處置你，才能使風浪平靜呢？」

沒有信心的人不能得到上帝的喜悅，因為來到上帝面前的人必須相信上帝存在，並相信祂會賞賜一切尋求祂的人。

他說：「沒有人為我解釋，我怎能明白呢？」他就請腓利上車和他一起坐。

而記載這些事的目的是為了使你們相信耶穌就是基督，是上帝的兒子，並且使你們這些信祂的人可以靠祂的名得到生命。

保羅問他們：「你們信的時候有沒有領受聖靈？」他們說：「沒有！我們從來沒有聽過聖靈的事。」

水手們非常害怕，紛紛呼求自己的神，又把船上的貨物全都拋進海裡，以減輕重量。這時候，約拿已下到底艙，躺在那裡呼呼大睡。

「如果有遠方的外族人聽說你的大能大力，慕名而來，向著這殿禱告，

眾人都極其敬畏耶和華，向祂獻祭，並且許願。
