以永生不可壞天主之榮、易以偶像、髣髴可壞之人、及禽獸昆蟲之形、

忍棄永生者天主之真榮、而易以必朽者人類禽獸蛇蟲之偶像。

They would rather have statues of gods than the glorious God who lives forever. Their statues of gods are made to look like people, birds, animals and reptiles.

Has a nation ever exchanged its gods?( But they were not gods!) Yet My people have exchanged their Glory for useless idols.

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.

Being God’s offspring then, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.

I went in and looked, and there engraved all around the wall was every form of detestable thing, crawling creatures and beasts, as well as all the idols of the house of Israel.

They have mouths but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.They have ears but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.They have hands but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot make a sound with their throats.Those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them.

You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols that could not speak.

Do not make an idol for yourself in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth.

“ For your own good, be extremely careful— because you did not see any form on the day the Lord spoke to you out of the fire at Horeb—not to act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of any figure: a male or female form,or the form of any beast on the earth, any winged creature that flies in the sky,any creature that crawls on the ground, or any fish in the waters under the earth.

Who will you compare God with? What likeness will you compare Him to?

Look up and see: who created these? He brings out the starry host by number; He calls all of them by name. Because of His great power and strength, not one of them is missing.

For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the pagans choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.

The woodworker stretches out a measuring line, he outlines it with a stylus; he shapes it with chisels and outlines it with a compass. He makes it according to a human likeness, like a beautiful person, to dwell in a temple.

The idols of the nations are of silver and gold, made by human hands.They have mouths but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.They have ears but cannot hear; indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.Those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them.

The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands to stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which are not able to see, hear, or walk.
